Working at the Intersection of Capitalism and Altruism... Golf is a lot of things to a lot of people. Unfortunately, “easily accessible” generally isn’t high on the list. Reality is most places to swing are built around proportionately high fixed costs making it impossible to offer both convenience AND affordability. The math just doesn’t work. I had an unbelievably big smile on my face last night looking out the back door and seeing our math work differently. Math where fixed costs are essentially eliminated. 3 junior lessons took place between 5-9PM. The furthest drive for a parent was 12 minutes. An unlimited use membership at this club - for the entire family - is $65/month. We let a pro use the space for free and in return he offers members 20% off rates. And when all was done, I still hit balls myself unwinding before bed. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a capitalist to the core and the reality is that the approach and pricing across our clubs is going to vary. The bigger reality though is that there is a ton of opportunity to be had when you operate at the intersection of capitalism and altruism – making high-end golf easily accessible for everyone. Alabama BASS Nation High School 2024-2025 TEAM REGISTRATION IS OPEN: #abnhs2024_2025 DIRECTIONS FOR WEBPORTAL: Coaches or the Club admins will need to go to www.ABNHS.org, and click the tab/link at the top-left "Coach's Login". Login if you already have registered. If not, click the "Coach Registration" button. After logging in: "Register School/Club" - if your school/club was registered last year, this step can be skipped. However, if you are a new coach, I would recommend re-registering a school/club so it will be "connected" to your coach profile. "Register Anglers for ABNHS Membership & Pay State Dues" - enter angler information and pay $10 ABNHS Membership dues per member for the 24/25 season. We do understand the BASS Nation Roster will not begin their new season registration until Sept 1, and we expect many will not be able to update their Bass Nation Roster until a few weeks after they open. And Yes, you can edit the expiration dates whenever you update your Bass Nation Roster after Sept 1. In the meantime, you can enter temporary date, like 9/30/2024 for the end of Sept. Keep trying as the online roster system is overwhelmed during this time period. Credit card is best "Complete Angler/Parent Info & Send Waivers" - Anglers must be registered for ABNHS Membership before the electronic waiver can be issued. Waivers will have to be completed before registering for tournaments. "Register Boat Captains & Send Waivers" - waivers will have to be completed before registering for tournaments.

Investors! Investors! INVESTORS!!! Do I have your attention? Okay, good. I've got a deal for you. The golf opportunity of a lifetime. My lifetime, certainly, but maybe your's too. I wouldn't really know about that. Like many golfers, I've given more than a little thought into course design. My sons are all golf architecture aficionados as well, and between the four of us we've got at least a couple of dozen books on the subject. Here's the deal. The American Society of Golf Course Architects is offering "the rarest and most unique experience in the history of golf design." The ASGCA Foundation is holding the first-ever Architects' Boot Camp in about 2 months, and 16 select students will get the chance "to immerse in an unprecedented golf course design exploration, under the tutelage of seasoned golf course architects." We're talking 4 days at Erin Hills Golf Course in Hartford, Wisc., site of the 2017 U.S. Open. There is one big problem, and you can probably guess what it is. The small matter of a $20,000 entry fee. Here's the good news: $15,000 of that qualifies as a charitable tax deduction, so it's really only $5,000 we're talking about here. But wait, there's more! Architects' Boot Camp takes place Sept. 10-13, and my birthday just happens to be Sept. 12. Coincidence? I think not. But wait, there's even more! It's not just any birthday this year. Oh no, it's a milestone. The big Six Zero. Makes you want to write a check, doesn't it? Remember the magic words: tax deduction. And once I'm a boot camp graduate, your golf course will be the first one I design. Have we got a deal?

I was working as a golf pro when Golf Channel debuted. A member at the club asked our on-site teaching pro if the free lesson advice on Golf Channel had negatively impacted his paid lesson business. He laughed and said, “Are you kidding? I’ve never been busier. People are more messed up than ever!” Today, there is plenty of access to information.
