Sell it or Scale it? This week, I sold my 3rd SaaS startup, At Capacity. After a short 16 months, we decided to sell the company instead of continuing to scale it. Why? We originally partnered with a marketing agency to build the product. We successfully built the product to sell it to other marketing agencies in other verticals. We could also sell it directly to customers. When we went to sell it directly, we very quickly realized they needed a marketing agency rather than just software. However, selling it to other marketing agencies had its own set of challenges. One of the agencies we talked to also tried to acquire us, which made us think about what to do next. I'm sure, given enough time, we could have figured it all out. Ultimately, we decided to sell the company to CAMP Digital, the marketing agency we originally partnered with. The product worked so well that they didn't want any potential competitors to have it! Special thanks to everyone on the At Capacity team. We had about 20 employees working at the company.
How does that work if you partnered with the marketing company to make it? Were they just advising on the product and planned to use it but you still owned it?
Excellent,.. Congrats Matt Watson What were your primary learnings during this project?

1moThanks for sharing Matt. I have a few questions on this and will greatly appreciate it if you could answer some of them: - Our Indian startup system sees this as a red flag in entrepreneurs if he is saying that he will sell the company in future, if need arises! So selling a company is a good thing or a bad thing? - Those 20 employees had to leave after selling or what? - If a person is founding and then selling companies say in profit after every few years then how is he as an entrepreneur? I am curious to know your take on the above!
