Many years ago I was offered a job. The job was posted, I applied, and I turned it down. 3 times. This was going to be my leap from an IT-based role into a true fundraising role. I started in this sector as a database analyst, but fell in love with annual giving. So, when the manager role came up, I applied for it. Unfortunately, the offer was effectively the same as my pay. I had a job that I was really good at, and my performance was stellar, and it was easy to measure that. This would have been a jump into a role where I would have to raise millions, be evaluated to some degree by things not under my control (the economy, fundraising budgeting decisions, etc), and potentially in charge of people. For the same pay, the same vacation, etc. They told me they couldn't do anything about the pay, so I asked for more vacation. More RRSP contribution. Something. Nothing. A couple of weeks later, just before they reposted the role, they offered it to me again. With the same terms. Then they posted. They interviewed. They had a candidate that they wanted to go forward with. But they asked me one more time before they did that. SAME. TERMS. So, I turned down my first real fundraising job... thrice. #nonprofitlife #fundraising #annualgiving

They've been popular with our chapter members, as it gives them a chance to get some BA experience (perhaps in an area they'd like to learn more about) while also helping a worthy cause. The mission of Rainbow Village is to transform the lives of families experiencing homelessness by providing help, hope, housing and healing in order to instill initiative, self-development and accountability that will foster meaningful growth in the lives of all who encounter Rainbow Village. What is the project? Rainbow Village is in need of a Data Strategy plan that outlines how donor, fundraising and client data can be used to its fullest potential. The Data Strategy will outline what data is required to fulfill tracking requirements as well as current and future reporting needs and will allow the organization to easily gain insights into their work and make informed decisions as they move forward. Activities in the project will focus on finding data gaps and provide recommendations for tracking key data and KPIs around key functions (grant writing, donor management, and fund raising). Why you? If you're a BA who would like to get a 'taste' of the consulting process, or a BA who is interested in learning more about the 'data science' world within the BA universe, this could be for you! Typically, involvement in the project will require 1 to 3 hours a week (depending on where we are in the project), and will probably run 12 to 16 weeks.
