𝗪𝗵𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗲? - #𝗜𝗪𝗗𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 My approach to International Women's Day has been changing over the years. What hasn't changed is my belief that in an ideal world, we wouldn't need it. Yet, here we are. I think the best thing we can do today is to reflect on the gender gap in business and society. Of course, this is about symbolism because just talking about something rarely changes it. Therefore, I would like to bring your attention to a specific industry I'm particularly passionate about—wine. The data about women's representation in this field is limited and fragmented (I wonder why). In the US, for 2021, Zippia reported that only 17.8% of winemakers were women; out of that percentage, only 1% were Black. In Napa Valley, the share of lead women winemakers and winery owners weighs in at 12%, according to a study by Santa Clara University In Italy, one of the biggest wine producers, women manage 28% of wineries with vineyards, 12% of industrial wineries, 24 percent of retail wine businesses, and 12.5% of wholesale businesses (Cribis- Crif data, published by Il Sole 24). Janice Robinson, a recognized wine critic and journalist, looked into the proportion of women studying wine. The result of her research is very optimistic and encouraging. In 2020, almost 45% of wine students were women (in 2015 this was 35%). Women are slowly reaching more prominence in the wine world. The wine industry is complex and has a vast legacy that creates many barriers for women. As the situation improves, I remain hopeful. If you want to support this movement, next time, before purchasing a bottle of wine, perhaps ask the seller about the producer or google it. 𝑯𝒂𝒑𝒑𝒚 𝑰𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒏𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍 𝑾𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒏'𝒔 𝑫𝒂𝒚 2024!
