Please sign the petition .👇 https://lnkd.in/gq2nnWW4 Hoad’s Wood, #Ashford, #Kent, #UK a cherished area of natural beauty, designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), is currently facing a dire situation due to rampant illegal waste dumping. What was once a vibrant habitat for diverse species is now a desolate wasteland, with processed landfill waste strewn across a 4-acre area, in some places reaching depths of over 20 feet. Despite previous warnings from the community dating back as far as 2015, the current catastrophe began escalating in July 2023 when community members reported observing 20-30 trucks a day, many unregistered, illegally disposing of waste in Hoad’s Wood. Despite these early alerts, a lack of prompt and effective intervention allowed the situation to deteriorate drastically into an environmental catastrophe. The consequences of this negligence are profound. The accumulation of waste not only poses a significant threat to the area's biodiversity, undermining the habitat of local and rare flora and fauna, but it also adversely affects the well-being of the nearby community. The environmental degradation and potential health hazards this situation presents are intolerable.  The site is already giving off hydrogen sulphide gas and toxic leachate.  The leachate is seeping into the River Beult, a tributary of the River Medway.  This is harmful to the wildlife in the woods, the nearby community and wider public health.  To rectify this crisis and urge immediate and decisive action, please sign the petition.👇 https://lnkd.in/gq2nnWW4 #RescueHoadsWood #kentwildlifetrust #outheastriverstrust #woodlandtrust #environmentalcrisis #environmentaljustice #intergenerationaljustice #ecosystems #biodiversity #conservation

Forests are much more than just carbon sinks, and the CommuniTREE project by Taking Root is a great example of that. The impact of a credit extends far beyond just removing carbon, and it's a big reason why we're committed to our partnership with Taking Root. The CommuniTREE Carbon Program in Nicaragua is a great example of how a people-first approach leads to successful forest restoration. When smallholders themselves see themselves benefits that reforestation brings, they're motivated to keep planting them. This not only helps restore ecosystems but also removes carbon from the air. In Nicaragua, where deforestation is widespread, CommuniTree shows how working with smallholder farmers can achieve large-scale forest restoration. Their approach benefits both the environment and the communities that need it most. To me, there is really no comparison between credits from projects such as CommuniTREE and avoided deforestation or REDD+ credits. Great work by Sydney and Will and the rest of the team putting this video together!

It’s time to stand up and take action – protecting forests is too important to wait! Critique is easy, but constructive action is needed. Instead of dismissing efforts to bridge conservation and economic activity, we should advocate for transparency, accountability, and improvement in these systems. REDD+ projects have demonstrated their potential to protect millions of hectares of forest and significantly reduce carbon emissions. The Ohio River Basin grapples with various environmental issues, including pollution from industrial waste, coal mines, agricultural runoff, and sewage systems. These challenges disproportionately affect low-income communities and communities of color, who often lack the resources to effectively address them. ➡ However, local initiatives offer hope. Communities are demonstrating the potential for change through actions like dam removal, acid mine drainage cleanup, and green infrastructure projects. An excellent example is the installation of a green roof at Oyler School in Cincinnati by Groundwork Ohio River Valley Green Corps members, aimed at reducing pollution and managing stormwater runoff.
