Consumer Action is a nonprofit fighting for policies that promote financial prosperity and fairness for underrepresented consumers. Last night, they celebrated their 52nd anniversary and paid tribute to long-serving staff, supporters and sponsors. Thankfully, Consumer Action is also an endorser of The Aluminum Association and Can Manufacturers Institute's #RecyclingRefund (i.e., deposit return system) principles for beverage containers. Recycling refunds have a proven track record of benefiting consumers by incentivizing recycling, reducing litter, lowering GHG emissions and providing clean materials to serve as recycled content in new beverage containers. By encouraging more recycling, these programs also create more jobs than when beverage containers are landfilled. This week, I learned valuable lessons from taking out the recycling bin. ♻️🗑️ I put it out, expecting it to be picked up, but it wasn't. Noticed my neighbor's bin was out and not picked up either. At first, I got a bit upset. 😠 But then, I took a deep breath to calm down and decided to double-check the pickup schedule. Turns out, I had the wrong day. Recycling is every two weeks, and it wasn't due yet. Looks like my neighbor just followed my lead and put theirs out too early as well. 😳 This small event taught me valuable lessons: ✅ Always check the facts before getting worked up. It's easy to assume or react quickly. But a simple step back and a quick check can save a lot of unnecessary stress. ✅ It also reminded me how our actions can influence others, even in small ways. So, let's make sure we're leading by good example, starting with the simple things. #LifeLessons #StayCalm #CheckTheFacts #patience

Begs the question: What is an old e-product? MiA's project raises awareness of reuse and repair of 'old' or unwanted electrical and electronic items. It's been found that many are not at their end-of-life. These items are usually better made and more repairable. Offer up your e-waste to family, friends, neighbours, on Facebook Marketplace, buy nothing groups etc before chucking it into bins for downcycling. Today is my birthday🥳 and what better way to celebrate than with doing what I love, which is to serve. To say I was excited when I first saw this Glass Bank by 'The Glass Recycling Company' during one of my walks would be an understatement. I was beside myself with ecstacy! I saw this as an opportunity to #PlaymyPart in the hierarchy of waste management. As for me and my house, we shall reserve those wine and beer and mayonnaise bottles for a special glass bin🤭. 🍻To me, and to growth, and to separation of waste at source, one bottle at a time. #stewardship #circulareconomy #wastemanagement #seperationatsource

Happy America Recycles Day! 🌱 At Vernier Science Education, we're passionate about supporting our environment. Here are three stellar suggestions from our Green Team to kickstart green practices at home or work: 1️⃣ Rescue paper from the trash bin. Re-use copy paper printed on one side as scratch paper or weighing paper. Then recycle it after it is no longer of use. 2️⃣ Turn off equipment when not in use, turn down the heat (and wear a sweater like your parents told you), and watch those utility bills shrink. 3️⃣Swap single-use for reusable! Think cloth napkins and kitchen towels instead of disposable paper and encourage a culture of sustainability.

At the moment there are seven different ways of collecting rubbish and recycling across the county. Having one way would be more efficient and better value for money. We’ve looked at different options for collecting recycling and believe that providing two wheelie bins, one for glass, cans and plastics, and one for paper and card will help achieve our goals.
