"World's #1 Designer"—my Mom

I swiped +400 artworks off my Instagram profile. Yesterday, a good friend of mine asked me WHY had I done it. I couldn't come up with a better answer than... "It's too much...there's too much going on" It wasn't the response I was looking for. Which made me realize I hadn't taken the time to dig deep enough into my motives. Putting it into words so it travels beyond my own [very] abstract thinking. In the past, I had seen big names, artists, and whatnot do it. My brain couldn't wrap around the idea of tossing in a drawer the blood, sweat, and tears embedded in 2, 5, 10+ years. Countless hours - gone at the snap of a finger. Why would you ever hide away the fruits of your hard work? Today, I 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘬 I get it. It's a way of expressing: "There's enough" Enough news outlets prescribing panic and fear. Enough sources of information filling our cups. Enough loud voices blah-blah-blahing To put work away is not an act of self-vandalism but a silent protest. A quiet, passive, harmless way of standing against the myth of productivity, the hustle culture, and everything in between. Today, I choose to be silent. To say less, make space for ideas, and let go. The light needs gaps to shine through.

Just as more words make it LESS likely for people to read what you wrote, more examples of your work give you LESS control over the message potential clients will receive. I think it's fine to bear it all to fans, as they know enough context to appreciate the fact that you are growing, and that your best work from years ago is probably worse than what you can do now with your eyes closed. But for first impressions? Controlling the message > showing your progress. "Just tell me what I can get, I don't need your life story" or something like that. That's why I only have my fearless pricing emails in blog form tucked away on my web page - fans will know how to find it, the newbies won't. Hope that makes sense Marco Vannini

Beautiful post, Marco Vannini. I recently reread the book Essentialism. This time the message really landed for me - less is more. Or as you say, there is enough.

This too is an expression. An expression of yourself Marco. Allows you to be yourself, connect with yourself. Art needs emotions, even chaos. But sometimes, peace is all you need. To bring forth the next storm! A Tornado of thought and madness.!

This is so powerful & deep Marco Vannini. Often, we get lost in this loop of productivity and stay stuck there. Silence is beautiful. Silence is gold. 🫶🫶🫶
