Ever taken on a community management role that sounded perfect on paper, only to find out the community's needs and dynamics were far more complex? In reality, community management involves navigating unexpected conflicts, understanding member needs, and reading between the lines of community interactions. Honestly, it’s wild.😳 I was the only community manager in this team last year And now we’re a team of 4 👀 Managing communities for an array of clients At a level well above what we were before 😲 It’s hard to know if you’re doing the right thing as a new leader But I’ve come to realise that there’s no single trait that you need 🤔 Instead it’s a mixture It’s having the humility that keeps you open to feedback and away from making decisions based off ego 👀 It’s having the instinct to know what needs to be done to keep things moving forward And it’s having the empathy for both yourself and others 💗 Especially when the path ahead isn’t particularly clear and you don’t really know how it’ll all go And honestly, it’s not all me.👀 I’m insanely lucky to have this team. A team that always tries to bring their best foot forward 🙌🏼 Regardless of their circumstances that day. A team that’s invested in growth and are open about how they feel about it 🌱 So that I can know how to help them along the way. But most of all, I’m lucky to have a team that just supports each other 💌 Whether that’s jumping in when someone needs extra support with their 900 new comments Or empowering the other to feel confident when sharing their train of thought in a discussion about how this department can grow 🚀 I’m just insanely lucky to have a team that’s keen to build this with me. And, can’t wait to see how it’ll all go and how we’ll inevitably grow.🌱 #communitymanagement

Happy Monday and Happy Community Manager Appreciation Day, LinkedIn! 🌟 🙌 Today, we celebrate the incredible work of Community Managers around the world who dedicate themselves to fostering connections, building communities, and making a difference. As you know, I've been sharing #communitybuilding tips here on LinkedIn and I think today is a great day to start again from square one, especially for those of you who are new in the field. 👩🏻💻 Tip #1: Start with WHY you want to build a community. The 'why' is the foundation of every successful community. It's your purpose, your mission, and your North Star. What drives you? What change do you want to bring? Start here, and the 'what' and 'how' will follow naturally. 🌱 Community management is a role that sometimes goes unnoticed, but for many of us, it's a labor of love. It's about creating spaces where people can connect, learn, and thrive. It's about building bridges, amplifying voices, and fostering a sense of belonging. Let's remember that there are companies and organizations out there that truly value the importance of community. They understand that a strong community can be a powerful force for good. 🤝 But let's also acknowledge that as Community Managers, we often put others first. We spend our days helping and supporting others, but what about us? What can we do for ourselves and our community of Community Managers? Let's start by connecting, sharing resources, and learning from each other. After all, we know the value of community better than anyone else. 💙 Today, I want to express my gratitude to all the amazing Community Managers out there. As I reflect on my journey as a community associate , I'm humbled by the wealth of knowledge and experiences this role has afforded me. Here are some invaluable lessons I've gleaned along the way: Active Listening: Understanding the needs and of your community members goes beyond just hearing them out. It requires active listening, empathy, and a genuine desire to connect on a deeper level. Empathy: I learnt that by empathizing with the joys and struggles of our community members, we can foster a culture of inclusivity, support, and understanding. Clear Communication: Transparent and timely communication is essential for building trust and fostering meaningful relationships within the community. It also ensures that everyone is on the same page and can actively participate in community initiatives. Collaboration: Collaboration amplifies our impact. By working together with colleagues, stakeholders, and community members, we can leverage diverse perspectives and resources to achieve common goals and drive positive change. Adaptability: Communities are dynamic and ever-evolving. As community managers, we must embrace change and adapt quickly to new challenges and opportunities that arise. Patience: Building a thriving community takes time and patience. It requires consistent effort, perseverance, and a steadfast commitment to nurturing relationships and fostering a sense of belonging. As I continue to grow and evolve in my role as a community associate, I invite you to join me on this journey of learning, collaboration, and community building. Let's connect, share our experiences, and inspire each other to make a meaningful impact in the communities we serve.
