Recently I completed my 1st year at Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and want to share how I felt working for a company that loves challenges and believes in making this world a better place. BCG is one of the finest and most amazing organizations I have ever worked with in my long career. From the very first day, it has impressed me with the unwavering dedication, creativity, teamwork, and various social activities that define its work culture. One aspect that stands out is the nurturing and inclusive atmosphere that pervades our workspace. It’s remarkable how every voice is valued, and ideas are encouraged and celebrated, regardless of hierarchy. This approach has deepened my commitment to our collective goals. Another commendable aspect is the importance given to mental & physical health, reflected in flexible work arrangements, and the various wellness programs offered. I am also incredibly impressed by the commitment to continuous learning and development. The opportunities for professional growth through training programs, workshops, or mentorship, have been invaluable in enhancing skillsets. This is a testament to BCG’s forward-thinking vision. In conclusion, this 1 year has been an extraordinary journey of learning, growth, and inspiration. But I can not end this post without thanking my manager Ritika Pathak & our director Uday Kumar Nair, who keep me & my team excited about the opportunities and the challenges that lie ahead. This month marks my first anniversary with Bain & Company – it has been an exciting journey so far!   As some people still know me as a physician, I often get the question: What am I doing in #managementconsulting? Over the past year, I’ve had the chance to work on exciting client projects in #insurance and #healthcare, which have strengthened my passion for these fields even more. I cherish having my weekends free while still being able to make a significant impact – no longer directly with patients, but in areas such as digitalization and AI applications. In doing so, I quickly realized that my medical background profoundly shapes my approach, bringing not only #medicalexpertise to the table, but also a keen ability to distinguish between cause and effect.   But for me, it’s not only about the interesting cases I get to work on. It is first and foremost about: ⭐ My wonderful colleagues and fellow Bainies, who it is always fun to work with, including some connections that go beyond work ⭐ The experiences I made: Financial Services affinity group meetings, a project-related trip to the US, the New Consultant Training in Barcelona and other work-related travels were highlights during my past year at Bain ⭐ The dynamic environment with many opportunities for me to grow personally and professionally as well as Bain’s culture of appreciation   And of course, I am looking forward to everything that is yet to come! #consulting #bain

I thought leaving my job at Bain & Company would be difficult and traveling around full-time would be easy. It turns out, leaving Bain was easy, and traveling around full-time was rather difficult. But, of course, there are means in this world that can make the difficult easy. My tech genius co-founder and I started Polartern to build those means. I am happy to share that we've come this far. How did I decide to quit BCG to start Nova? Reflections after 5 years. Today it makes 5 years since I decided to leave BCG (although we incorporated the "new" Nova in January 2020). I remember my mother was particularly mad at me when I told her I was leaving a great job that I liked. Indeed, changing jobs is often a tough decision, particularly if you like what you do in a prestigious firm and you get a good salary. In my case, there were 4 main reasons: 1. Personal Upside: more aligned with my purpose Although I loved my work at BCG, I found that Nova was clealy more aligned with my personal purpose and my passion for connecting great people 2. Professional Upside: bigger professional challenge Although BCG was still a great challenge, by moving to Nova I became exposed to leading a bigger team sooner, to selling, to raising money … clearly an upgrade in terms of professional challenge and responsibility at least in the short term 3. Economic Upside: bigger potential return with enough fixed salary Although my fixed salary today is lower than what I would have at BCG at this point, it’s enough for my lifestyle and I have much more upside if the company goes well though my shares, which could potentially generate me much more money than a career at BCG (although with less probability) 4. Reversibility: I had a way back Since I had been successful in my 2 years at the firm, the worst thing which could happen is that I would need to go back. Once you have this kind of feeling, making this kind of bold career decision becomes 10x easier. 5 years later, I have never regretted making the decision, not for a single day. Even if Nova would fail (which I belive is becoming less and less likely), I would be super happy I had made it. The level of learnings, friends and memories I carry with me are just amazing. 👉 So think carefully about decisions like that, but if you can rationalize they make sense, optimize for lack of regret. Not having tried is always more painful than failure or rejection. The role offered to me was on a contractual basis – it was risky, but the upside was also immense! I took a leap of faith and accepted the offer. After working for 16 months on contract, I was finally offered a full-time role. Today, celebrating my recent promotion, I have two important things to share – First, there are many routes to a fulfilling career at a top consulting firm - you just need to decide which path you want to take and then work towards that. Second, if you want to think outside the box to make an impact in your area of expertise, team dynamics are usually almost always flexible to enable them come together to support you wholeheartedly!” #RealLifeAtMcKinsey
