Career Update: 🌱 Reflecting on a decade in the training industry, I'm grateful for the journey and the extraordinary participants I've had the privilege to interact with. Training is more than a profession; it's a passion close to my heart. The constant quest of "What's next?" and "How can we innovate?" has always propelled me forward. Through engaging with numerous inspiring founders, a clear path has emerged, guided by the weak signals that whisper of change and the courage required to pivot.   I am excited to announce the expansion of our venture, White Oak. An investment arm through which I'll collaborate with visionary founders to create an ecosystem in the financial education industry that helps Simplify, Empower, and Endure – Our Vision. We aim to partner with training firms and financial institutions to co-create transformative solutions in the ed-tech space.   🦷 Parallel to this, my commitment to the dental business continues unabated. With a focus on expansion through roll-ups, we are fortunate to have secured the financial backing of an incredible group of family and friends. Its hard for seed stage founders to stomach giving away 35% and STILL be in the wild. Its usually after Seed that you realise: 📢 Capital efficiency = offense and defence. 1. Offense to build a sustainable business 2. Defence from l͟e͟a͟k͟i͟n͟g͟ ownership Because, In the absence of valuation going up, you really are leaking it away. After all, What is the point of working so hard... If it becomes uninteresting to you JUST as things begin to get good? If you truly know your business and its potential... work BACKWARDS. Where will I exit? How much will I own when I do? If today that means - It's looking questionable? Pause & Re-adjust. Otherwise, you will sleep walk into a wall. If you're building in the space or just want to chat about it, reach out directly at dimple at vscventures.com. ⏱️ Day 2 consisted of mostly heads down work going through ~100 deals that Vidush Jaipuria and the rest of the team have sourced over the past couple of months. This includes me getting up to speed on industries and gauging whether or not a product/service fits our investment criteria + has the potential to give us high returns. 💡 Today's highlight was getting to know the other interns on the PR side of VSC! Grace Wharton, Valentina Solci, and Claire-Emma Britt all doing amazing things for our PR clients! 💭 Key learnings today: - Founders ➡️ communicating regularly, even if briefly with small, frequent updates is extremely important to keep your investors engaged. Remember: investors are more than your cheerleaders. You can take your time to report successes but come immediately with problems! - Investors ➡️ Growing channels for deal sourcing can look different for everyone. Some avenues that work for me: being vocal online & offline about our investment thesis, building relationships with early founders and co-investors, and showing up at demo days and other events near me. Career update! Many of you know I left my role running go-to-market talent at Sequoia last year after 4 fantastic years. Today I’m excited to announce my next chapter. I’m joining forces with marketing veteran David Cain and People & Talent leader Regan Cain, PHR at ElevenX Talent, to co-found an executive search firm to support founders at a pivotal moment, as they determine who will lead their go-to-market engine as they scale.  ElevenX Talent has a singular mission: help early and growth-stage tech companies find exceptional GTM leaders who accelerate growth. I learned during my time at Sequoia that the GTM function is the most critical function to establish after series A and building one is not a one size fits all approach. Strong pattern recognition, depth of knowledge, and a network of top-tier executives are critical to do this successfully. Partnering with experienced operators like David and Regan is a unique way to leverage our networks and know-how to help founders in their journey. We’ve been quietly working together these past few months on several searches, placing great GTM leaders in companies ranging from $2M to $200M ARR. It has been so much fun and I knew this was the partnership and the venture I was looking for! Looking forward to working with many of you in the months and years ahead. 

🚀 Founder’s Log 2024.11 🚀 This week was a shorter week heading into my favourite holiday of the year. It was a week full of interesting pitches, intriguing conversations, and some personal milestones being reached. Not a bad time if you ask me! (Photo is from my Tuesday at EY seeing the presentations for the awesome Boomerang Labs | Australia accelerator 2023-4 cohort) Advice Received: In the wake of the historic sentencing of Sam Bankman-Fried to 25 years in federal prison, I feel like we’ve all received some advice from the US judicial system: Don’t get blinded by the aesthetics, be sure to scrutinise a startups tech and business model. The startup industry can be as guilty of any other of drinking it’s own Cool-Aid about what someone should look like and what technology is the next new hot thing to take investments to the moon. The truth is that con-artists like SBF thrive in this environment because all they need to do is adopt a specific aesthetic and say some meaningless gibberish about utilitarianism to have a waterfall of hype and investment. So be skeptical (but not cynical) when you’re approaching something that seems too good to be true. It probably is. Successes had: I was pretty in the ball this week, so I thought I would share a philosophy that has brought me success over the past few months. Just ask the question. When you’re at a public event where they ask if anyone has questions, it can feel daunting to step out and raise your hand.  Try to push through the anxiety and trust that your perspective will add value to the discussion being had. So many of us are worried we’ll be judged if it isn’t an amazing, mind bending question; but remember, your brain is tricking you!  People aren’t judging you the way it’s telling you they are It’s natural to be anxious about even the smallest amount of public speaking, but pushing through that anxiety can open up a world of possibilities for you! Lessons learned: Always follow up. That’s it, that’s the lesson. Message that person you met at that event last night. Email them about that thing you were talking about.
