The spleen is an organ located in the left side of the abdomen. Has several functions 1. Filters blood by removing cellular waste and getting rid of old or damaged blood cells. 2. Makes white blood cells and antibodies that help you fight infection. 3. Maintains the levels of fluid in your body. 4. Produces antibodies that protect you against infection.(copied from Cleveland clinic) The spleen can be enlarged in some diseases such as Malaria etc. The scarification marks may be a source of infection to the child as unsterilized instruments are used The pain during the procedure as no anesthesic agent or analgesia is used. The 'Apa Afo' ' practice needs to stop it plays no role in the healthcare of the child. It delays the appropriate care a child should receive. Admission screening testing of patients and staff N95 masks are cost-effective in reducing COVID-19 hospital acquired infections      Findings Compared to no admission screening testing and staff surgical masks, all scenarios were cost saving with health gains. Staff N95s + RAT admission screening of patients was the cheapest, saving A$78.4M [95%UI 44.4M-135.3M] and preventing 1,543 [1,070-2,146] deaths state-wide per annum. Both interventions were individually beneficial: staff N95s in isolation saved A$54.7M and 854 deaths state-wide per annum, while RAT admission screening of patients in isolation saved A$57.6M and 1,176 deaths state-wide per annum. Interpretation In acute care settings, staff N95 mask use and admission screening testing of patients can reduce hospital-acquired COVID-19 infections, COVID-19 deaths, and are cost-saving because of reduced patient bed days and staff replacement needs. https://lnkd.in/edUmFMQx

Would that also result in decreased morbidity and mortality? “Semmelweis cared for the childbed fever women during their illness, and when they died, he did autopsies on them. Astute clinical observations and logical reasoning goaded Semmelweis to suspect the role of “unholy” hands of “holy” physicians in the transmission of puerperal fever. He enforced a hand-washing policy for physicians. Those with unwashed hands were disallowed into labor room. The hand-washing practice for 1 year led to unprecedented decrease in maternal mortality. Here is one of interesting case that came across my pediatric clinical rotation A 12-year-old girl has fever, cough, loss of appetite, low energy and fatigue, sweating. Listening reveals a hissing sound. chest x-ray shows a mild pleural effusion on the right side around [300 ml], so drainage is not needed. Practically, it could be a virus or bacteria, so we can start a broad-spectrum antibiotic. 2nd or 3rd generation cephalosporin or macrolide or vancomycin.This patient received vancomycin at a pediatric dose of 40 mg/kg/day divided into three doses eight hours apart Vancomycin was continued for 21 days. During this time the symptoms subside but she started shaking and shivering with a high fever and the fever lasted for 2-3 days, it did not go away and after 3 days she developed a rash all over her face and back. ? ? Why do you think the rash and fever occur? This is because of a rare side effect of vancomycin known as Red man syndrome or Vancomycin flushing syndrome!! .
