NDMS Partners Day at Ultimate Caduceus Exercise 2024 A unique demonstration of medical response capabilites at the intersection of military and civilian operations. Incredible performance by the USAF 60th Medical Group to bring so many interagency partners to the table to practice how we play. This challenging scenario "broke the system" several times but the partners worked through the friction over several days to achieve the necessary synergies. Key Learning: Steady state siloed health systems require significantly more coordination for regionally integrated medical surge operations. https://lnkd.in/g9asxeQr SGM Ryan Nemeth, USSOCOM Senior Enlisted Medical Advisor, and I had a great time meeting with a delegation of Ukrainian medical personnel (military and civilian) who were in town for a week meeting with clinicians from the Haley Veterans Hospital. SGM Nemeth and I talked about what the SOCOM Surgeon's Office does to provide medical support to Special Operations Forces around the world. We learned from the Ukrainians about how their frontline medical treatment and evacuation protocols have been impacted by the unique characteristics of the war there. Most interesting was the discussion of how they've adapted the Tactical Combat Casualty Care guidelines to best support frontline treatment and evacuation of their casualties. Drones, both friendly and enemy, have impacted their protocols, as have prolonged evacuation times and the need to provide prolonged casualty care in many circumstances. The hard-fought lessons they've learned over nearly two years of war, including the need for torniquet reassessment and sometimes conversion, will help inform changes to the Tactical Care Combat Casualty Care guidelines and benefit American casualties and those of our allies in the future.
