A new study from researchers at the Center for Climate Change Communication, George Mason University and the University of Maryland School of Medicine reveals how role model stories of health professionals engaging in climate and sustainability action can be effective in helping inspire others to do the same. "Highlighting the stories of influential healthcare role models may be one important method of mobilizing more health professionals to take up the critical role of climate and sustainability advocacy." #ClimateChange #Health #HealthProfessionals #Doctors #Nurses #HealthCare #ClimateAction #ClimateIsHealth

Nurse Impact on Global Health Policy Global health goes hand in hand with local health. Issues at any level or geographic area have implications on diagnosis, treatment, and prevention at another location. It is important to recognize the potential impact of health issues and address them by designing, implementing, and evaluating effective policies and programs (Short, 2022). The United Nations (UN) is one of three international organizations that takes action on a wide range of issues that confront humanity such as human rights, health emergencies, sustainable development, and more (Short, 2022). The figure below represents the UN's 2030 sustainable development goals that address social, economic, and environmental determinants of health. The focus of health is a common theme which includes nurses with involvement in many programs that deal with the goals and often are a significant part of the leadership team (Short, 2022). Although nursing may feel like only small impacts are seen in practice, there is a bigger picture that nurses contribute to and can get involved with to help steer global policies. Health equity is crucial in ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to live a healthy life, regardless of their background or circumstances. By promoting health equity, we can reduce disparities in healthcare access and outcomes, and improve the overall well-being of our communities. One of the key benefits of health equity is that it allows for fair and equal access to healthcare services for all individuals, regardless of their income, race, or geographic location. This means that those living in rural and remote areas have the same access to quality healthcare as those in urban areas, helping to bridge the gap in healthcare disparities. Achieving health equity requires a collaborative effort from healthcare providers, policymakers, and community members. By addressing social determinants of health, such as poverty and education we can create a more equitable healthcare system that ensures everyone has the resources they need to live a healthy life. we can create a healthier and more equitable world for everyone. #healthequity
