New jobs are hard I had my oil changed this morning and during the process of changing out my wiper blades, the tech let go of the wiper and it cracked my windshield. The service advisor that I was working with was the one that had to tell me about the crack. He delivered the news very appropriately as he explained the situation and how they were going to repair it at no cost. When I met him with kindness, he was so relieved and told me that he had only been working in the job for a month and was very nervous to have to tell me this news as he had not experienced this situation yet. This whole situation was just a great reminder that new jobs are hard! I don't think we talk about it much because new jobs are also exciting - they promise a change, new adventure, whatever positive spin you want to put on it - but they are HARD. Even the longest tenured employee at a company had a first day so we truly all experience this hardship at some point. New people are trying to learn a new culture, new position, and find out how they fit into the larger puzzle. If there is a new person at your company or you are a hiring manager for someone new, just keep this mind and remember to be kind to the newbies.
