I have 5 All India CBSE National Swimming Championship qualifications, and top 10 finishes in all events participated. However, it wasn't always like this. 10 year old Diya couldn't even imagine going to the deep end of the pool. I vividly remember sitting on the edge of the pool, telling my coach that I couldn't go to the deep end -"I just would not be able to make it!" My coach, believing in my ability, told me - "Diya, nobody is born with the ability to swim, that too in the deep end. It's learnt, and you can learn it too." Those words had such a deep impact on shaping me as a person, because since that day, I've never once looked at a challenge and backed down by thinking -"I can't do it/ I don't have what it takes to do this". I've swam in pools 20 feet deep, qualified for All India Nationals in 800m events, participated in All India math competitions, competed with an AIR 5 tennis player, won Abacus championships and more, all with some great lessons! It's all because of that one moment, that made me a growth mindset person, instead of a fixed mindset person, and now, is a permanent part of my life. "…anda tidak mahu bersara mahu ‘loncat’ sampai 60 tahun pun saya terima." Strong words coming from Any Low following the poor performance of our national diving team at the World Aquatics Championships in Doha recently. More specifically, he was referring to Malaysian National Diver, Datuk Pandelela Rinong. Another shocking statement coming from the Secretary General of the Malaysian Swimming Federation: "Manusia bila gagal bagi alasan, tolak kiri kanan, ini orang semua tidak profesional tetapi mahu ambil gaji." While it is understandable that the Malaysian Swimming Federation is unhappy with the results of the competition, I find these statements to be totally disrespectful and unbecoming of a senior official of the Federation. Murlikant Petkar had an extraordinary life which got a worthy celebration in Chandu Champion which also highlighted his gold medal in the 1972 Paralympics...however we should leave it there and it would be far-fetched to believe that Para-Sport will now receive a greater level of awareness in India because of this. My thoughts in my blog

These competitive swimmers, who are racing to be qualified for the Paris Olympics, are a true testament of excellence! Competitive swimming is one of the sports that... To be excellent, you have to practice the same stroke 1000 times over! Such grit, determination, and playing the long game. I have a daughter who is a competitive swimmer, and trust me when I say: Times can be tough where she is heavily challenged, near the cusp of quitting, especially when all her hard work doesn't show immediate results. In our fast paced world, where everything comes at lightning speed, including our immediate need for gratification and expectations for success... These swimmers are great reminder for me to be focused, be consistent, have grit, determination, and play the long game. Jack Burnell, a retired Olympian swimmer, carved his name in the archives of open water swimming history with a silver medal at the 2016 European Open Water Swimming Championships in the 10 km race. However, his journey took an unexpected turn at the 2016 Rio Olympics when he faced disqualification in the same event. In 2017, Jack seemed to make a comeback by clinching gold at the FINA World Cup in Abu Dhabi. However, beneath the surface, he continued to grapple with the emotional aftermath of the 2016 Olympics. The looming World Championships in Budapest that same year brought to light Jack's inner turmoil, as he candidly shared his battles with depression, triggered by the disqualification. Following these challenges, Jack decided to retire from competitive swimming. However, his commitment to high performance persisted. Jack transitioned into a new role as a performance mindset coach, bringing his wealth of experiences to benefit individuals and organizations. Notably, he found a place in the world of football, working with prestigious teams like Brentford Football Club and Tottenham Hotspur Football Club. Jack's coaching approach is not rooted in academic psychology but rather drawn from the crucible of real-life experiences on one of the world's biggest sporting stages—the Olympic Games.
