The extension of limited prescriptive authority for psychologists is indeed an unfortunate situation for the citizens of Illinois. The law was passed in an atmosphere of misinformation and corruption. The lobbyist for the psychologists had a historical relationship with key persons in state government. The rationale in support of this change in law was inaccurate and without support. Even now the misinformation campaign continues. The notion put forward that this law increases equity is just silly. What equity is established by having minimally trained psychologists with no medical background provided the ability to prescribe psychotropic medications. Another fallacy that was advanced in support of this change was that prescribing psychologist would help address the underserved. This was false back when the law was passed and remains false today. Please be honest and transparent with the public. How many psychologists in IL are prescribing? Please include correct number in your posts. Last time I checked it was less than 20. Are these psychologists practicing in underserved areas? I do not think so, unless Michigan Ave. and the Gold Coast are underserved. There is much more to say but just advised that length of post is near max.
