Dietitians and Clinicians: Here are 5 things we can start doing in our practices to help combat the anti-fat bias in the ED profession. 1. Think beyond just weight: Instead of just relying on numbers like BMI to diagnose and treat eating disorders, let's dig deeper into individuals' unique experiences, feelings, and behaviors to understand their struggles better. 2. Create safer spaces: It's crucial to openly discuss the harmful effects of being judged for one's weight and ensure that everyone, regardless of their size, feels valued and supported throughout their journey to recovery. 3. Advocate for equity: Challenge discriminatory practices within the field that unfairly target individuals based on their weight. Let's push for policies and protocols that treat everyone with the respect and fairness they deserve. 4. Look at the whole picture: Rather than solely focusing on weight as a measure of progress, let's broaden our perspective to include psychological, emotional, and physiological markers of recovery to ensure a more comprehensive and accurate assessment of well-being. 5.
