Charlie participated in his first American Heart Association Kids Heart Challenge and met his fundraising goal! BONUS! The theme this year was dancing and his school had a Dance Party! Most times the curtains are pulled back and lights shined on the team when major production issues occur, not when an SRE Engineer guides and influences developers to build their stuff with reliability and performance top of mind. Hero School: What the Homeless Can Teach Us – Hero School is a charity focused on assisting the homeless and operated by my good friend TIGER TODD. These are young people that attended their “Breakthrough Academy.” Two important lessons here. First, “Don’t blame others – take accountability for your actions.” All day long candidates tell me, “Not my fault.” It’s their company’s fault, boss’s fault, parent’s fault, spouse’s fault, children’s fault…dog’s veterinarian’s fault. Number of candidates that told me they were fired for cause: None. There is exactly one person 100% responsible for your life: YOU. Second, at the one-minute mark in the video the young lady says, “You have to add value first.” The three Rs: Relationships, respect and reciprocity. If only call to ask for free hotel rooms or show tickets, no one will return your call.
