The Meltano Slack community is currently inaccessible as the result of a botched migration by Slack: https://meltano.com/slack Slack gave us 3 unviable options: 1. Pay $10,000s/month for 4,200+ enterprise seats (instead of the 20 for our team that we'd agreed to) 2. Engage Slack in a "pretty costly" "4 week minimum" "downgrade" project 3. Start from 0 with a new Slack community We're really sorry for the inconvenience and hope that Slack can resolve this in a reasonable and timely fashion. If you know anyone at Slack who could help, we'd appreciate it if you could let them know you're locked out of one of your favorite data communities and share this with them. We appreciate your patience as we get you back your Slack! Stewart Butterfield Marc Benioff Junan Pang

I've been using Slack for developer community + support for a long time now [8+ years]. We all know it's not designed [or priced] for that use case and needs extensions to scale, but it's still one of the best tools out there to bring communities together for synchronous chatting and super-fast support. One of the challenges with support in a model like slack has always been "how do you make sure the user got a response?" This was especially rough before threads existed, but it's even challenging now in high-activity groups like our MotherDuck #support channel on https://lnkd.in/gjchK6pm. I want to give a shout out to the folks Thena, especially Jared Gaynes, Mike Molinet and Sidd Gupta. Thena helps us keep track of these conversations [automagically AI-driven] to make sure we're not dropping them. They'll do the same for private channels with customers. And they produce lots of data that we drive into our data warehouse, powered by MotherDuck, which informs some of our email automation.

Is Slack slacking off? What are you seeing? I am seeing Slack lose share to all the other stuff - WhatsApp, Signal, Telegram, Discord, even SMS. Across my companies, some use Slack but most do other stuff. I know Microsoft is playing their classic "bundle it all and price anti-competitively" game with Slack - but in my world at least I'm not seeing Teams take up the Slack - just seeing folks not love Slack and use other simpler stuff. My 2 cents as a PM - Slack *stinks* for onboarding, and their pricing barriers make it hard to collaborate without paying up. ie - the on-ramp is too hard. Especially across multiple accounts and businesses etc. Whereas simpler stuff *just works*. What are you seeing? If you're still using Slack - why? What are the big benefits?

Thought you knew Slack? I did when I joined. My first few weeks here have shown me the depth of features and integrations that Slack offers, far beyond basic messaging. Check out this Slack 101 guide to really see what’s under the hood: https://lnkd.in/g5NAMQuf

Companies like Slack provide more than just business value. They provide personal value for employees. For example: When I started at my company, almost two years ago, a few colleagues and I created a group chat on slack that we talked in everyday. And we still do ON TO THIS DAY! If I ever worked for another company that doesnt have Slack, best believe Im buying my own license. NOW THATS VALUE

With Slack Connect, you don’t need to give people access to your whole Slack workspace — just the channels that you need to collaborate in. #Slack Slack Slack Developers #SlackCommunity #SalesforceSlack

Slack has so many incredible features built in (and new ones being added!). Here are three that I've recently started using. 1. Adding Bookmark tabs in a Slack channel. I used to use pinned posts, but this is so much cleaner, avoids endless scrolling, and you can sort into folders. 2. Using the task management ("Remind me") features. If you have a message you need to follow up on in a certain amount of time, or just want to add it to your backlog, click "Remind me about this later". So much better than having 100s of unread messages. 3. Workflow builder. I just started using this one, but I've now automated it so that if a new team member joins, I can add them to the relevant channels, introduce them to the team, and send them some instructions they'll need to setup other tools, all in one click! What is your biggest Slack hack that I need to know about?

How transparent is your company in Slack? In 2016, Slack boasted that just 2% of all their messages were DMs. > Slack’s own team sends tens of thousands of messages each week—in a recent summary, 70% of those were posted in public channels, with 28% occurring in private channels and just 2% in direct messages. (link below) Now they're rolling out a new UI that puts DMs front and center. This isn't the design of a product founded on public channels and crafted to foster transparency and collaboration. What changed? What changed at Slack? Has a similar change happened at your company? Are public channels still lively? Is the energy / banter there? Or is it a ghost town - with people opting for DMs? There's a great report in Slack that shows the % of messages sent in public- vs private-channels vs DMs. Check it out. Our team is hovering around ~80% Public channels, which feels about right, and is something we'll monitor closely as we grow the team. (screenshot of our data in the comment below)

Does someone know of an exceptional Slack roll out expert? I've got a 150 employee client where we rolled out Slack and 4 months later there are a lot of frustrations, issues around channel management, dealing with massive threads, searching for important but inactive threads, etc. We are looking for someone who knows how to structure channels, best practices and training to work around Slack's feature gaps. (I know I can look in gig marketplace sites, and probably will, but asking friends here first.) #slack
