In this article, EICBI fellow Ira Bikram delves deeper into collaboration opportunities and potential within the medical equipment industry across the India and European Union corridor. At the EU India Leaders Conference 2024 on March 6th at the European Parliament in Brussels, one of the sectors of focus will be on the medical equipment. Among the various sectors demanding collaborative efforts, healthcare remains not only crucial to EICBI’s goals, but also stands out as a critical domain affecting the well-being of millions. The collaboration between the European Union (EU) and India in the medical equipment sector represents a significant step toward enhancing healthcare infrastructure, fostering innovation, and ensuring better patient outcomes for all at this critical juncture. In the Union Budget 2022-23, Rs. 86,200 crore (US$ 11.3 billion) was allocated as a budget for the pharmaceutical and healthcare sector. 🌍 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: 𝗥𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗗𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 Between June 17 and 19, AmCham Romania members from the medical sector joined the Romanian delegation of Healthcare Stakeholders to visit the 𝗙𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗮 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗼. Organized by the US Embassy Bucharest, Romania, and AmCham Romania, this event aimed to expose Romanian healthcare professionals to the latest advancements in medical technology and practices. 📍 The visit to 𝗕𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗙𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗮 𝗛𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 highlighted the impressive scale and capabilities of a non-profit healthcare system: 1.8 million patients treated annually, 27,000 employees, and 4,000 physicians. The event showcased the desire for 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗴𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀. This approach will integrate advanced medical technologies and significantly enhance patient care, paving the way for a brighter, healthier future. Unfortunately, I couldn't attend the pre-conference of the HTAi Annual Meeting in Seville, so I want to thank Rossella Di Bidino for presenting the state of the art of HB-HTA in Switzerland on my behalf. I am honored to be part of the HTAi Hospital-Based HTA (HB-HTA) Interest Group. This Interest Group is dedicated to: • Providing a space for HTAi members who are developers and users of Health Technology Assessment (HTA) in hospital settings. • Promoting awareness and expanding knowledge on Hospital-Based HTA. • Sharing principles, values, and methods as fundamental steps to accelerate the adoption of an HTA approach at the hospital level. • Proposing methodological approaches for Hospital-Based HTA. • Identifying and sharing best practices relating to HTA initiatives at the hospital level. • Collecting and discussing desirable trends of collaboration between National/Regional HTA and Hospital-Based HTA programs. • Sharing information, insights, and working on collaborative projects. Similar platforms have long existed in the US, UK, and other countries, and are quite useful for those looking to join a clinical trial. By focusing on patient education and ease of access, Singapore will hopefully help more people benefit from potentially life-saving therapies, and help sponsors and CROs more easily reach their enrollment goals.
