This week, 400+ YMCA Advocates from across the country gathered for National Advocacy Days in Washington, DC, to meet with members of Congress and share their stories of impact. You can add your voice by taking action in this campaign! These Y leaders urged Congress to take action on the Y's top legislative priorities for 2024 by working to: 1) Help working families access child care by approving the highest level of funding possible for the Child Care and Development Block Grant (CCDBG). 2) Improve the nation's health by supporting the highest level of funding possible for CDC's National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion. 3) Support nonprofits and civil society by cosponsoring the Charitable Act to create a universal charitable deduction and increase charitable giving. 4) Increase access to essential services in rural areas by cosponsoring the Investing in Rural America Act, which would provide resources for building and renovating facilities such as child care centers and hospitals.

Fact-based, solutions-oriented, lived-expertise— These are all common terms used to examine advocacy work and the organizations that lead it. They are also all terms that define CCC’s work. For nearly eight decades, we have pushed forward solutions that combat inequities and improve child and family well-being. Though sometimes advocacy can feel overwhelming and complicated, CCC’s unique capacity to find real solutions using data and research, while engaging community voices, makes our advocacy truly actionable. The pathway for advocacy is often long, but we are steadfast in our commitment to making the city a better place for children to live. In a few weeks, on May 7th, we will honor some of our great allies while reflecting on past work and what’s to come at our annual spring gala. This gala is one of the main ways we raise funds to keep our critical work going and likewise celebrates a community that cares deeply about children. As an independent, nonpartisan organization, our ability to advance the well-being of children relies on passionate supporters who share our vision. We have a proven track record of successes that we build on year after year, moving the goalpost, but we need you to make it happen. Join us as champions of our advocacy: https://lnkd.in/e-a5ce5b #Advocacy #MakeADifference #ChildAdvocacy #NYC #NewYorkCity #ChangeInAction #MoMA #Gala

When Social Finance acts as a learning partner we work alongside programme, finance and government stakeholders. Bringing system, strategic and evaluative thinking together, we generate meaningful insights to guide action. As part of our ongoing learning partnership with The Henry Smith Charity and Speakup, we have recently published an interim report on the role of non-statutory advocacy in supporting people with learning disabilities and autistic people in the UK. This work is part of a three year programme aimed at building an evidence base around non-statutory advocacy as a foundation for policy change and sustainable funding. https://lnkd.in/eGU7-TzN An Easyread summary is also available: https://lnkd.in/e3H3x6rN #SystemsThinking #learning #partnership #LearningDisability #advocacy

New BLOG POST! Advocacy can take many forms including individual advocacy where a person or group represents the interests of a few or even systemic advocacy where groups faced with a common issue can affect change on a broader scale (for example, working toward a change in policy or legislation). Self-advocacy is the ability for a person or their representative to communicate their interests and then make decisions on the next steps to meet those needs. So why is it important that our participants know how to self-advocate, and how do we, as Supports Planners and Service Coordinators, support and enhance this skill? We recently sat down with Megan Bazzett, Director, Community First Programs at The Coordinating Center to learn more about self-advocacy.
