Good article Warren, you are correct it is not rocket science, for me it’s about being factual and delivering your message in a genuine and empathetic way. But it goes further as a Landholder Relations person you are as good as your word, generally our landholders are country people who take people on their word, it is our integrity on the line and I have often seen our hard work and integrity’burnt’ by people who don’t need to look landholders in the eye. It can take weeks, months or years to build a relationship with some landholders and yet the relationship & trust can be destroyed in seconds. On the matter of cost, if you do not engage and actively listen and just ‘bully’ your way through irrespective just to save money then the opex side of the business will pay the price, what you’ve save will be drop in the ocean if the relationship is destroyed. Not only will it cost more over the lifespan of the asset, logistically it can be a nightmare. Compensation means nothing to some landholders and understanding why can be difficult, but understand why and you’ll generally be able to work towards the desired outcome. I have more to add and I’d welcome a coffee chat sometime Warren, I think it would be an enjoyable chat.
Stakeholder engagement is something we are pretty passionate about at Groundline. Pondering the recent backlash from farmers in Victoria, Australia, we asked Warren Leedes from our team to share his approach. We believe projects can achieve results which balance cost, speed to complete and retain social license with the community. Get in touch if you'd like to talk more about this or share your perspectives here. https://lnkd.in/gFSdSKtR #groundlineengineering #stakeholderengagement #powerindustry #electricity

Public Engagement | PR & Media Relations | A Digital-First Leader who Solves Business Challenges with a Creative Mindset
In the past 20 years, we’ve seen community engagement on major utility projects move from being supplemental to being essential. As technology has made it easier to share information and gather feedback, stakeholders need to be able to use their voice conveniently, whether at a public open house, with a phone call or by sending an email. All this input – and the changes to how we gather information – makes for better projects. We can help clients deliver cleaner, more reliable and safe energy while taking into account what’s important to the local community. At Burns & McDonnell, we continue to look for new ways to increase participation, especially among historically disadvantaged communities. We work to help ensure all views are presented as decisions are made on where to build infrastructure. And we’re using everything from new technologies to old-fashioned face-to-face meetings to get that input, track the project’s commitments to stakeholders, and help our clients to be successful. Here’s to continued progress! #GlobalEngagementDay

As we confront the impacts of #climatechange, it's clear that our approach to urbanization and infrastructure must change in order to build resilient communities and improve quality of life. However, many existing infrastructure systems are outdated and under-funded, resulting in decades of limited innovation. At the 21st annual Social Enterprise Conference, Capital for Good, Blair C. Smith, ’00BUS, senior director at the Milken Institute Center for Financial Markets, and Jonathan Winer, co-CEO of Sidewalk Infrastructure Partners (SIP), discussed how SIP is deploying capital toward technology-focused solutions for more #sustainable, resilient, and #inclusive infrastructure. 🌍 Empowering BIPOC Communities for a Greener Future! 🌱 There are some who falsely believe that driving community-centered projects is just about understanding capital stacking. While it’s true that capital plans are crucial for large-scale infrastructure projects, there's so much more to it. Here's what’s essential before we even get to stacking capital: Why It’s Important to Go Beyond Capital Stacking: 1. Community Engagement & Needs Assessment: - Why It Matters: Genuine engagement ensures projects address real community needs and garner local support. - What to Do: Host listening sessions, conduct surveys, and run focus groups to gather input from community members. 2. Feasibility Studies: - Why It Matters: Evaluating technical, environmental, and financial feasibility ensures the project can succeed sustainably. - What to Do: Conduct comprehensive assessments to confirm the viability of the proposed project. 3. Stakeholder Mapping & Coalition Building: - Why It Matters: Building strong partnerships with local organizations and leaders strengthens project support and execution. - What to Do: Identify key partners, establish networks, and foster collaborations. 4. Project Design & Planning: - Why It Matters: Detailed planning aligns the project with community goals and prepares for successful implementation. - What to Do: Develop thorough project plans, timelines, and budgets that reflect community needs and priorities. 5. Regulatory Approvals & Permits: - Why It Matters: Navigating regulations ensures the project meets legal requirements and avoids delays. - What to Do: Secure all necessary permits and approvals from local, state, and federal authorities. Support for BIPOC Communities: - Technical Expertise: Access to experts for designing and implementing projects. - Funding & Financial Planning: Help in identifying and securing capital. - Capacity Building: Training programs to equip community members with essential skills. By addressing these foundational steps, BIPOC communities can ensure that their projects are not only financially viable but also sustainable, equitable, and deeply rooted in community needs. Let’s build a greener, more just future together! 💪🏿💡 #InvestingInAmerica #BIPOCCommunities #GreenInfrastructure #CommunityDevelopment #Sustainability #CleanEnergy #ClimateAction #GHGReduction #EmpowerCommunities

At Connected Britain 2023, we spoke with Adele Cihlar, Head of Operational improvement at Freedom Fibre, to discuss the ongoing challenge that wayleaves present for fibre builders and how best to build meaningful relationships with stakeholders without resorting to legislation. Wayleaves have always been the bane of infrastructure providers professional lives, posing a time consuming and costly challenge to rapidly expanding the UK’s fibre rollout. The scale of this challenge is well known. In fact, in 2021, new legislation was introduced by the government to streamline the removal of red tape for multi-dwelling units (MDUs), but so far these new legal resources seems to be having little impact. “We want to be partnering with landlords and councils. We don’t want to be using legislation to get that engagement. Whilst that legislation does exist, I don’t know of any altnet that is actually using it,” explained Cihlar. “It kind of goes against some of the things we’re trying to achieve with councils and landlords.” Watch the full interview here- https://lnkd.in/e8n4aXrE #5G #ISPs #digitalinclusion #digital #telecom #technology #infrastructure

Accelerating progress, together! 💧🤝💼 In the quest to enhance water infrastructure, uniting private water companies with the public sector stands paramount. Imagine the synergy between private innovation and public welfare! First, it's about sharing expertise. Private firms often house sharp innovating minds; when that's coupled with public insights about community necessities, the fusion leads to tailored, impactful solutions. Learning from each other is vital. While public entities can adopt private sector efficiencies, the private sector can embrace the public's dedication to universal service. It's a two-way street paved with shared knowledge and better service. Then there's funding. It's time to rethink investments, exploring creative financing solutions that mix public priorities with private dynamism. Through joint ventures and partnerships, we can harness capital for impactful projects. Public trust plays a crucial role. By involving the community and stakeholders in open dialogues, these collaborations can foster transparency and build a foundation of mutual trust, essential for any venture's success. Finally, technology exchange can be a game-changer. Leveraging innovative private technologies, like smart metering, can leapfrog public services to new efficiency heights, saving time, resources, and ultimately, our precious water. Your thoughts? Any other synergy tactics? 🌊🛠️ #WaterCollaboration #PublicPrivatePartnership #InnovationInInfrastructure
