Multiple representatives of the European Refractories Producers Federation (PRE) will participate in the #UNITECR2023, which will take place from 26-29 September, in Frankfurt, Germany, hosted by Verband der Deutschen Feuerfest-Industrie e. V. (VDFFI) and organised by ECREF - European Centre for Refractories gGmbH.   “The Carbon Challenge: Steps and leaps to master the future”, is the main topic of this year’s edition. The way to carbon neutrality for high-temperature industries such as Refractories, is the challenge that lies ahead. The transformation from carbon to green hydrogen-based steelmaking and the replacement of fossil fuels in high-temperature processes will have an impact on the refractory materials. New technologies will require new lining concepts. Modified and new refractory lining concepts will also help to save energy and lower the carbon emissions for existing technologies and processes. Modern tools such as big data analysis, machine learning, and the development of suitable models will help increase the speed of innovation in the Refractories sector.

Our latest paper offers unique insight into the local extinction and subsequent re-ignition process in turbulent ammonia/hydrogen-air flames. This work identified multiple reaction zones with varying extinction properties at different axial locations. The data represent the first Raman/Rayleigh/OH/NH2-LIF measurements in a series of ammonia flames with varying Reynolds numbers at Sandia/Sydney pilot burner, making it an excellent target for numerical model validation in ammonia flames. https://lnkd.in/eq3mQpsv
