#Metallurgy Tip: We had some spare #aluminum parts from a lot in a display case that had blue #anodizing surface treatment. Sitting in a stack, the top piece color faded, as did a line on another part. Some of the sides also showed fading. Surfaces facing down or covered did not have the fading. We've learned that the light coming from fluorescent fixtures was enough to fade these pieces! This result was after ~6-12 months of sitting on the shelf. This is good reminder to: 1. Discuss dye and dye color, and the light and environment that it will be exposed to 2. Discuss a potential Seal Test with your anodizer or manufacturer as part of a Quality Program 3. Discuss anodizing vs powder coating vs painting with your manufacturer to choose the best method for bringing your project to life. 4.
