TEFL Certified English Doctor/Communication Coach/Public Speaking Instructor - I help people to refine their communicating skills
HOW TO RESOLVE A COMMA SPLICE Not standard: Robert is happy, he ran five miles today. In the realm of grammatical intellection, the above sentence is not up to scratch, and why? The reason is that you cannot employ a comma to join two complete sentences. 1. Enlist a comma alongside a coordinating conjunction. Robert is happy, for he ran five miles today.✔️ 2. Enlist a semicolon. Robert is happy; he ran five miles today.✔️ 3. Enlist a full stop. Robert is happy. He ran five miles today.✔️ 4. Enlist a subordinating conjunction. Robert is happy because he ran five miles today.✔️ By the way, we have rearranged our upcoming giveaway masterclass for 3 and 4 May, 2024. To partake in the learning experience, pay to Craig's Communications Clinic First Bank 203 602 6333 Thereafter, send your receipt to 07083222289 for confirmation. We look forward to seeing you.

Freelance beer journalist, speaker, podcast host, & Advanced Cicerone©. Author of Pairing Beer & Chocolate book.
In Final Gravity, we don't go for quantity—we publish only 8-10 articles in each issue. We instead curate an eclectic collection of stories that range from personal reflection to cultural commentary, but always focused on the humans and relationships that make beer, at its best, an amazing cultural force. Here are the stories in Issue 04, out now. They're all worth reading, and you can do that here: https://lnkd.in/gSbjkfd3

Trainers, Facilitators, instructors, coaches, if you only read the tips in this post, you'll likely learn something new or be reminded of ideas you already have experienced. The article is helpful too with nice examples of how to make the first 5 minutes (of any event) more meaningful and memorable for the participants.
The first five minutes of a gathering can change everything. ✨A good opening invites guests into a (temporary) social contract. ✨A good opening reminds people why they are there. ✨A good opening shows guests you care. ✨A good opening connects guests through shared, relevant context. ✨A good opening meets the moment. Check out some of my favorite stories of how hosts have opened well: https://lnkd.in/eJuaWdC5

I am a huge fan of Priya Parker. Her year-end newsletter included a call-back to this post from March of last year about the importance of how we open a gathering. Much like my post yesterday about the wavy perforation in Charmin toilet paper, she notes how "small, simple shifts can have an outsized impact on your entire gathering." That matches my own experience. The first five minutes of an event set the tone for me and indicate whether this is a space for thinking with diplomatic, polite interaction or perhaps a vulnerable space for candid conversation and deeper connection. On this fourth day of the new year, I wonder if we can bring this same intentionality to the year ahead. How do you want to show up for the rest of this first week of 2024? What is the container you want to create for the interactions you want to have with family, friends, or work colleagues? How will you spend your time? Which gatherings will you attend? With whom do you want to gather? Small changes matter. So does starting things with intentionality. Happy 2024!
