The annual report out livestreamed by the General Aviation Manufacturers Association Wednesday delivered good news mixed with ongoing challenges to the industry. My key takeaways? 1. The GA industry delivered more than 4,000 units across the piston, turboprop and jet segments last year—more than we have in a decade. That’s exciting and shows continuing strength in the face of supply chain, inflation, and workforce pressures. 2. The MOSAIC comment period is open again—and we need to weigh in strongly against the proposed shift to Part 36 noise compliance, which would add spurious testing to already extensive certification programs. 3. We need to push for a commensurate book & claim system in Europe—especially as SAF availability moves to commercial airports and out of reach of BizAv where it can be used to foment innovation. 4. As we move towards the publication of the SFAR governing advanced air mobility lift, as well as facilitating bilateral agreements we must keep building guidance that is clear and actionable for the front line FAA, EASA, ANAC, and Transport Canada folks to implement. More on unleaded fuel, electric and hybrid progress, and fallout from Boeing to come. #JustJuliesTake #generalaviation #businessaviation
The total amount of GA airplanes delivered in 2023 was up 9% over 2022. See the full report at https://lnkd.in/e66PfUtg

The smaller widebody market is truly an interesting one to watch. For those needing widebody capacity but potentially not the range, what do you turn to for new lift. The 787-8 has been struggling with only 32 orders remaining and a lack on interest from the market. The A330NEO has been taking its time to gain traction amongst operators. But why?? Is it the price tag of ~$115 Million as opposed to $20-30 Million for used A330s…if you can find one. Or is the current time on wing limitations of the Trent 7000s making operators wait until they see further improvements. The A321NEO could help fill some of that gap but you can’t get one until next decade so that isn’t the answer for near term capacity. This year’s Farnborough airshow will be telling as to whether or not this trend is changing. Interesting times for this market segment and as always, a great analysis by Courtney Miller.
China needs short-haul airplanes, but there aren't any. Where will China find the lift it needs? Widebody production lines. Our latest Market Insights looks at the domestic China market and the gap between growing demand and available aircraft. In short, China needs airplanes; Airbus needs A330neo orders. This premium analysis showcases our narrow focus on market edge — finding what the market is missing and providing a contrarian advantage for our customers. Airbus Beluga Transport (AIBT) has been granted permission to conduct flights between Europe and the US. For the period up to 21 July 2024, worldwide available cargo capacity was up 2% compared to the same period in 2023. The share of freighters has been relatively stable, dropping only 1 percentage point to 52% this year. For Asia Pacific we see a very different picture: air cargo capacity increased +11% year-on-year. Moreover, the share of air cargo capacity on freighter flights is 11 percentage points higher than the worldwide average, but it did come down from 67% in 2023 to 63% this year.
