Start with one cup of coffee. Start with 10 push ups. Start with one social media post. Start with one CLE video. You don't have a network that generates business? Start with one coffee meet with a colleague. You're out of shape? Start with 10 push ups. You want to create a following on social media? Start with one post. You want to learn a new area of law? Start with a free CLE you find online. Don't focus on how much you have to do to get from here to there. Focus on what you can do today, and do it. Tomorrow focus on what you can that day and so on. In 30 days you'll be farther along than you think and by then it'll be a habit.
So true Frank Ramos! It certainly can be overwhelming to focus on how much we have to do as opposed to just taking action in the moment. To make the point, a wise person once asked me, “How do you eat an elephant?” I was puzzled by the question. The wise person then said, “You eat an elephant one bite at a time.” Great job with your insightful posts!
When I teach meditation, I share that I started with 1 minute of practice. That’s a few deep breaths. Starting small is how I started every essential habit in life and work.
I support this message. It does not matter how big the step is. The important thing is you take it.
This is a great reminder, Frank, especially in a world that can feel like it is screaming at us to accomplish everything at once. It's normal and acceptable to break goals into bite-sized chunks.
Outstanding Frank Ramos. This captures the process perfectly.
Every journey begins with one step.
Solid advice Frank Ramos. Have you read Atomic Habits, by James Clear? Very good quick read in the same vein as your post here.
