Years ago, a lawyer was a bad fit for our firm, and the lawyer left for another firm. On the lawyer's last day, the lawyer asked me for advice. I said three things: * Just because you didn't fit here doesn't mean you won't fit elsewhere. We're one of 10,000 firms. You'll find a home. * Whatever issues you had here, you can learn from them but don't burden yourself with them at your next firm. Don't second-guess yourself. * Whatever definition you had for yourself here, this isn't the definition you must drag to your next job. You have a unique opportunity—you can define yourself however you want at your next job. That lawyer went on to do great things and is doing great things, excelling, thriving, and doing fantastic. There are many firms where I would have crashed and burned because they weren't for me. You learn, you move on, you heal, you grow, and you do good. Find the place for you.

Don't EVER let somebody's definition or viewpoint of you affect how you conduct yourself in your career. Managers have all sorts of baggage and personal bias, it's human nature. Work cultures are never going to be a fit for every single person. Know yourself and your abilities and have confidence in them. Always be learning. If your organization doesn't understand your value, leave it and find another.

I also didn't "fit in" at the two law practices I worked for after law school. Now I work for myself and I have to say that I love my boss. She looks like me so she doesn't discriminate against me. She is great, and we get along well. She understands me and she agrees with everything I say. Best of all, she thinks that I am really great. I completely agree with her!! Problem solved....... 😂

Amen to that- been there, done that…

#truth is here written Everyone has a place in the world. When we find our place, everything falls into place. But sometimes we get a few bumps and bruises as we find our place. Those bumps and bruises are teaching tools; they educate us, but they do not define us. As the song goes, "Pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and start all over again."

Nearly two years back, I co-founded a law firm with my colleagues and became partners. Regrettably, due to unacceptable actions by one of my partners, the firm is closing, and we are parting ways. Initially, I felt disheartened, realizing that my efforts and dedication did not yield the expected results. However, after seeking counsel from my relatives, friends, and receiving encouragement from my former Managing Partners, I am grateful for the opportunity to rebuild my career. I am even considering enhancing my skills abroad if the opportunity arises.

This is so inspiring, Especially when you are loyal to your employer which you find out they aren't loyal to you and you get basically thrown away. Move forward, don't look back Hoping to do better...

Ever thought that the firm had more to learn by missing out on someone clearly so good ?
