Helping WaterAid Australia's mission to provide clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene to those in need is something close to our hearts at John Holland. Winnovators is one WaterAid initiative that helps us find real solutions to what is a global problem. Teams from different companies are pitted against each other to come up with a solution to a real-world water, sanitation or hygiene challenge in a developing country. This year, teams are focusing on real-life problems facing communities in Papua New Guinea. The best solutions can end up being implemented in the chosen country, so there’s a lot at stake. Let us end and eradicate the robbery with violence in the Northern Kenya rangelands. Any person calling it cattle rustling is not with us. It is a misleading narratives that is blocking deliver of a fairer and justice world for us in the drylands. Do know how many innocent people have killed and community and individual wealth stolen by this narrative? We are calling it what it is. Robbery with violence! It is not cultural it is a crime!

Where there is demand for community ownership of land, this is why making land available to communities is so important. Answer: Annually, around 130,000 tonnes of plastic find their way into the marine environment in Australia. Source: Australian Government, Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water. What is the main source of Ocean plastic pollution? Answer: Rivers carry plastic waste from deep inland to the sea, making them the main contributors to ocean pollution. It is estimated that 1,000 rivers are accountable for nearly 80% of global annual riverine plastic emissions into the ocean, which range between 0.8 and 2.7 million tonnes per year, with small urban rivers amongst the most polluting. When it comes to the use of public transport supporting infrastructure is key, if we expect people to wait for buses (which are often late) the very least we can do is provided shelter from the elements

I’m sitting at Tasha’s in Brooklyn, Pretoria. I arrived here at 07:59 after being dropped at the Sandton Gautrain about 7am by my great friend Andrew Mills CA(SA). It’s easy to become despondent about service delivery deficiency in S.A, and we should be sober-minded about the deteriorating daily reality for many citizens. But there are pockets of effectiveness that provide hope; a picture of what could be. Every South African should have access to brilliant services like the Gautrain, for instance. We clearly have the skills to pull it off. Existing infrastructure can be put to far more effective use. There’s no reason for every South African not to have access to clean water and sanitation, safe homes, job opportunities, and civil liberties. We have to become more effective both at demanding these things and helping to build the institutions that will make them a reality. We’ve just produced our Good Governance Africa Governance Performance Index, which measures local municipal and metro effectiveness. Demand more from your local government. Get informed, and then get involved in your local community. There is good reason for hope. But we’re going to have to fight for it. https://lnkd.in/dhuVEZAy
