For the last few years, I have had the honor of volunteering with Dallas CASA, an organization that recruits, trains, and supervises community volunteers to advocate for the best interests of abused and neglected children in protective care. Volunteering with this organization has not only been eye-opening, but heart-breaking at times. As an advocate for these children, our work involves meeting with kids on a monthly basis, advocating for their interests in court, and addressing any issues they face in school, health, or other areas of their lives. One of the most jarring realizations is that in many cases, there isn’t anyone else beyond us looking out for the kids. There is no backup. The system is overloaded and isn’t designed to deal with the complex problems that arise for these kids. The job of the advocate is to be that person that takes action and does all they can to intervene in the child’s life. This work is a reminder that as each of us observes the problems we have in this world, we can’t simply rely on the system or expect others to step up. It's easy to assume there are already measures in place or that someone else will take care of it. In reality- if we want to see change or make an impact, we have to do it ourselves. When we see issues in our community, we owe it to each other to bear the responsibility of change. We need to recognize that each of us has the power to make a difference.  By getting involved, we can help bridge the gaps and provide innovative solutions or much-needed support where it’s needed most. Whether it's through volunteering, advocacy, or simply being a voice for the voiceless, every action counts. #CommunityImpact #VolunteerWork #DallasCASA #ChildAdvocacy #TakeAction

Being a part of the group really helps if you ever wanted a career in support services or emergency services. It's great to go out and help the community and you come across so many different situations. DCS provides the team with great trainings. Whether it be learning about all the support services available to an individual or knowing how to use a rope bag, there's training available for everything. Not only that but DCS Management also provides a great support network for all it's members. It comes in mad handy if you dealt with something serious on a particular night and just wanted to speak to someone to get it of your chest. Honestly i love being out with dcs being out there to help people and also having the best team around me." Tyson's Storehouse’s Giving Tuesday goals are:  1. Raise awareness of Tyson’s Storehouse’s reentry services in order to spread the word about how they play a crucial role in helping individuals successfully transition back into society after incarceration.  2. In addition to raising awareness, Tyson’s Storehouse also aims to generate financial support by raising a minimum of $600!  3. Tyson’s Storehouse also seeks to gain 12 Facebook followers because it serves as powerful tools for spreading awareness and engaging with the community.   4. yet2 had a great time volunteering at More Than Words. We sorted through more than 1,400 books, working alongside the young adult coordinators who work at More Than Words “to take charge of their lives by taking charge of a business.” More Than Words works with some of the most vulnerable young adults in Greater Boston: those who are in the foster care system, court involved, homeless, or out of school. At More Than Words the young adults have a paying job that teaches them job skills, interpersonal skills, etc. while receiving focused support to ensure they persist in school and create plans for their future. #givingback #volunteering
