Bird of the Week Did you know the beautiful blue tit starts nesting in February? One of the most colourful common garden birds in the UK begins the search for a suitable nest site this month, although most actually begin building in late March. We can fully get behind this time taken from securing a site location and actually getting to work - it's so important that careful time and consideration is taken to ensure the plot is going to provide you with exactly what you need as your new hub! Part of our process at Wylde includes a lot of time take to understand facts, figures and ways of working, before visualising and detailing a project. Once the concept has been signed off, the hard work begins. Each aspect of the build will be detailed, specified and coordinated, including floor plans, specialist joinery, acoustics and branding, together with key design elements, finishes and materials. It’s critical to incorporate information from other consultants at this stage, to ensure a fully cohesive scheme is achieved. All statutory requirements are reviewed and are integrated within the information. We will either liaise with the Project Manager to compile a tender package, or we will coordinate information for a Design & Build contractor to implement. Did we just liken our own professional practice to that of nest building? Yes we did! And on that note, we're flying out of the office and into the weekend. At 899 Northgate, Canterbury Contractors took on the challenge of updating the exterior of this office building. With meticulous planning and execution, they wrapped the building in scaffolding, ensuring safe access for their team across multiple floors and varied terrains. The project wasn't just about splashing on a new coat of paint; it was about embracing modern design trends and showcasing how strategic enhancements can dramatically affect perceptions and value. Using a drone, I was able to film the entire transformation process. From the initial, unpainted and scaffolded state to the stunning reveal of the finished product, the footage provides a unique aerial perspective that highlights not just the changes to the building, but also the spectacular natural scenery of San Rafael. Creating a focal point can be as simple as choosing a contrasting wall color, hanging a bold piece of art work or even implementing a unique architectural element. Accentuating the view. Architects think about how a building makes you feel when you see it from the outside, how you feel when you're inside each room, and how the building relates to the world around it. A giant window like this is designed to provide a view, so it's important to show that view in photos. Sometimes, I'll let the windows be lighter and choose to obscure the details if they're distracting, like when there's another building right outside. In this photo, I wanted the view of the big sky to take center stage, so the interior is represented, but secondary. I also typically wouldn't want hard shadows like this, but in this context I think they're really dynamic and add to the visual interest. With the TVs, the table and the extreme perspective, the shadows act as additional leading lines bringing your eye back to—you guessed it— the view.
