Anyone that knows me knows that I'm a political junky. I became involved in political campaigns and politics from when I was 17. I was a Democrat in Brooklyn because that's what you were if you were anything. But as I got older, I moved towards being an independent. The fact that Georgia is an “open primary” state made that easier. You could never do that in New York. So I'd like your help on something. I've been following Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for a while now. Even with some baggage, I find his candidacy appealing. The pundits and media thought Trump couldn't win in 2016, but I reluctantly saw that coming once he won his party's nomination. The sad part now, again, is that people are underestimating his chances and overestimating Biden's. It's a long road ahead. 34 is an interesting number. 2024 may turn out to be a tumultuous year in politics. The DNC already made it a non-starter for Kennedy, as they did for Sanders under Hillary. You have no chance when the parties are against you. So, tell me what you think about Kennedy's chances, his messaging (not just the "anti-vaccine"), and his appeal. If, the media were actually to give him some coverage and if he gets on the debate stage, what would happen? Biden steps aside. What now? Minutes ago, Biden announced in a letter to the American people that he is stepping aside from the Democratic presidential nomination and, therefore, from the presidential race. The letter lacked real emotion, focusing more on his achievements than on the reasons or explanations for his decision (he will address the Nation later this week). Now, Democrats face a reality that most Americans and the world already recognized—Biden was not suited to continue in office. They are confronted with a complex situation unprecedented in their history. On one hand, there is a Vice President with little to no engagement, and on the other, there is no viable alternative candidate with the name recognition or brand that could balance the chances of winning against the Republicans. In the political arena, where play is more like the game of chess, is the Republican party attempting to play Whack-a-Mole and tiddly winks? Democrats are focused on defeating Trump and Trumpism this year. In some degree that may include illustrating ways in which DJT has made our (small d) democratic institutions toxic. The Supreme Court and its leanings toward assisting Trump through his various legal trials and its rescinding of rights will be not be immune to the spotlight. The attempts to keep Trump off the ballot may be seen as attempts to ensure the GOP nominates him. Case in point after it decided that Trump would be kept off the ballot in Colorado, a judge reversed that decision and the state gop has now endorsed the twice impeached and four-times indicted former President. It should be noted that Trump lost the popular vote badly in both the 2016 and 2020 races with the Electoral College handing him victory in the first race.
