While everyone else is speculating, BRAVO to TIME magazine for writing this excellent piece on how Parkinson's disease is diagnosed. It is a great 6 minute read which reminds us that Parkinson’s disease might be better called Parkinson’s diseases—plural—because the condition has many different causes and expressions. No doctor of any kind, of course, can diagnose Parkinson’s in someone without seeing and evaluating the person. When it comes to the President or any other public official or celebrity, Okun abides by the so-called Goldwater Rule—adopted by the American Psychiatric Association after hundreds of psychiatrists presumed, without an exam, to diagnose mental illness in Republican presidential nominee Barry Goldwater in 1964. Thank you to Jeffrey Kluger for putting the focus back on bringing awareness to the fastest growing neurodegenerative disease on the planet. https://lnkd.in/dEGbF6Em TIME Norman Fixel Institute for Neurological Diseases

Diagnosing it is not a problem these days. Telling a 31 year old man what his life will be like from now on after you have diagnosed his condition should really be formal training. But it isn’t. And please forgive me, but who give a s*** where the apostrophe goes in Parkinson’s disease… or whether your current President has mental illnessor whether your possible future President is stark raving mad (remember the one who wanted to inject us all with detergent !!!)

Thank you for highlighting this important article from TIME Magazine! It’s crucial to understand that Parkinson's can have many different causes and manifestations. Emphasizing the importance of a personal examination for an accurate diagnosis is also very important. The adherence to the Goldwater Rule further shows how ethically and responsibly professionals should act in such cases. A truly valuable contribution to public awareness! 🙌📚

Very insightful, thank you for sharing.
