I got a DM for advice from someone in a dilemma about whether to attend film school, having noticed that I had taken that path. Attending film school slowed down my conventional career progression. It was a detour in my corporate career when looking back. But, -- it shifted my life's trajectory, leading me first to Canada, then the U.S. -- I crossed paths with some of the most interesting and talented people. --the work we did was both incredibly demanding and incredibly fun. -- still today, that chapter serves as a conversation starter and a bridge to connect with diverse individuals. Is film school the right choice for me? It’s NOT if you think life is solely on a linear trajectory. But, if you see life as a multifaceted journey, it’s an excellent investment for me. Every decision's consequence should be weighed not just in short term outcomes, but in how it shapes you as a person and contributes to your broader life story.

Essential new entrant training to help you get a foot in the door in Northern Ireland…

Disney parks don’t have employees. → They have “cast members”. You don’t interview for the job. You audition. You don’t work at the park. You’re on stage performing. This might sound like a gimmick but it’s actually a clever idea that utilises the individual's pre-existing knowledge. Let’s say you’re working at one of the parks and you want to go for a smoke break. But you don’t know the rules or if you’re even allowed. Then you remember: you’re not an employee, you’re a cast member on stage performing. You then use your existing understanding of the theatre to generate the answer. Your character doesn’t smoke & you’re on stage. So you can’t smoke where you are. Maybe you can smoke where nobody can see you (offstage) or when you’re out of costume. Chances are you’ve just generated the right answer without having to ask anybody. Imagine you’re managing a park with thousands of employees – this simple reframing could save you a ton of time and a ton of hassle.
