Highly experienced copywriter and content writer, with experience across both charity and commercial sectors.
I see a lot of posts on here about the hiring process or the application process. Nonsense like 5-stage interviews or asking an entry-level candidate for 'at least 5 years' experience' (eh??), or just writing 'competitive' next to 'salary'. Here's another one (and I don't know if companies still do this, as it's so old-school): Asking a candidate to upload their CV... then asking them to write it all out again, manually, as the next stage of the application process (write out every job, every skill, every qualification/course all over again). Why? It's incredibly frustrating, unnecessary, and might result in a company missing out on hiring real talent.

Help PhDs to kick-start careers in industry | Co-Founder and CEO @Alma.me | Building a bridge between academia and industry | Speaker | Scientist
Three mistakes PhDs should avoid to get your resume on top of a recruiter's pile 1. DON'T use overly academic terminology. DO use industry-relevant terminology. 2. DON'T just describe what you've done. DO focus on the impact of your contributions. 3. DON'T use overly creative, graphical formats (unless applying for creative roles). DO use a legible, standard layout. ---------------------------------- Are you a PhD who isn't landing any interviews in industry? Check out how we can help you. Link in the comments. #phd #academia

A common complaint I hear from employers is that they just can't get people to apply for their open jobs. But what if your application process is what's scaring them away? In our first installment of Attracting & Retaining Young Talent, Jakob Zwank shares what college students expect from the application process. And spoiler alert... how you respond (or don't respond) to their application is critical in what happens next. Want to see our full interview? Three years ago, as an undergrad, I discovered my interest and passion for the corporate world. And as an intrapreneur, I have come to realize the importance of continuous growth for sustained success. This realization has fueled my action in the past year - from getting mentored to receiving training and a series of hands-on practices that involve lots of trial and error, rejections and wins too. Starting your career journey, whether as a student or a recent grad, can feel overwhelming. It's a very competitive space. Deciphering what recruiters are looking for in a candidate and even tailoring your experiences to fit the roles you are applying for could be tricky. We all need a guide now and then. I'm excited to share insights on accessing paid opportunities as an undergraduate and preparing you for your first professional role. This will be a 3 1 session; ✔️ Cover letter review ✔️ CV/Resumé structuring ✔️ Interview prep( I will share common questions interviewers ask, how to answer them and how to show up for interview) This session is entirely free as a gesture of giving back. However, to ensure everyone's commitment to the assignments and discussions, I would need you to register using the link below; https://lnkd.in/giKFaykS I am looking forward to seeing you on May 3rd!
