It is interesting how cities will only focus on one accelerator. I am not a big fan of the Techstars model. In my opinion, it doesn't nurture the local community - however, that was never their promise, nor was it to revitalize the local economy. However, Techstars can help mobilize a community to build and expand their ecosystem. I have many thoughts about the new #techstars2.0 that I still need to filter through. My biggest concern is how much more wealth disparity this will create. The opportunity is that I still believe local communities can lock arms and galvanize the best and brightest ideas to help move their economies forward by investing locally, building an ecosystem where trust is being built- and collaboration is happening all across the network. https://lnkd.in/gbF8jcnH

ICYMI: I stepped into the reporter chair again to write up the latest edition of Technical.ly's RealLIST Startups in DC! This list is a difficult one to put together every year, no matter the market. But DC feels uniquely challenging, if not moreso than the other regions we cover, because it's so massive, and there's so much money flowing that it can be hard to differentiate the hype of massive contracts/investments from whether or not a company is actually worth watching. So I aimed to strike a balance on this list, and couldn't have done it without Danya Henninger's focused edits and Michaela Althouse having left me a list of companies to consider. We like to think that we are constantly listening to the market and adapting. We have been putting together our 2024 Summit. We will have limited sponsor slots for big companies. A lot for startups (priced appropriately). No pay to play panels. A sponsor may be on a panel, only because they are experts in the field. Instead of 200 tickets. More like 150 tickets. Instead of 2 days, more like a day and a half. More interaction (vs a bunch of speakers).
