Excited to start this new North American Hydrogen Backbone initiative with our partners from Guidehouse. Please, read why we urgently need to start planning #cleanhydrogen connective infrastructure, define business models and regulatory framework and, most importantly, build early alignmenent across various stakeholder groups. Now that we know the places where the main hydrogen hubs in the USA will form it is the right time to plan how to join the dots between the main supply and demand centers both within and between H2 hubs!

Infrastructure is literally the “weak link” in the hydrogen supply chain. Repurposing existing pipelines, storage, etc is one way to help de-bottleneck the hydrogen economy. Where are the tax credits and incentives to support these initiatives? Policymakers need to think about what it will actually take to meet policy goals and not just about what is politically expedient. #h2#hydrogeneconomy#sustainablelogistics#sustainablefuture

There is a great deal of activity in the hydrogen space regarding production and end use of the clean energy. What is often overlooked is the storage and transportation of the molecule. Pipelines will play a critical role. Europe is pursuing a coordinated approach. I don't know if I can say the same for the rest of the world. I am a strong believer in H2 as a future energy source for a decarbonized grid, but I'm not so sure the industry should be following a "natural gas" production and distribution mind-set. Yes, I believe in replacing existing industrial production with green H2; use the pipelines, and deliver the product. But, the true value of H2 is on-site production and fuel cells or (don't hate me) combustion. It's not as "efficient" as batteries on a kW to kW basis, or as simple as other hydrocarbons (bio-fuels), but it is a carbon free and flexible energy carrier. Battery materials must be sourced and battery cycles mandate output cycles. Most importantly, and often overlooked, is that H2 can be generated with low voltage/low amperage power - a form of power that can be generated myriad ways and anywhere. In other words - the switch to H2 is best viewed as a means to forestall or eliminate transmission - a way to remove load from the grid or build generation where interconnection is expensive or difficult. #nonwires#hydrogen#hydrogeneconomy#hydrogenenergy#transmission
