President, Kaiser Permanente Southern California & Hawaii | Transformational health care executive focused on delivering value-based care and eliminating heath disparities
As we observe Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, I'm proud to highlight the inaugural class of our Mental Health Scholars Academy (MHSA), a program designed to build a pipeline of mental health professionals from within our own Kaiser Permanente employee base. These future mental health professionals, who come from various backgrounds, speak different languages, and represent rich cultures, will meet the growing demand for mental health care from our members, patients, and communities. A shining example of this program is Christine Nguyen, LCSW, a social worker at our South Bay Medical Offices and a member of the inaugural MHSA class. She is among the first to graduate this June with a Doctorate in Social Work (DSW) with a concentration in Clinical Leadership from Loma Linda University’s School of Behavioral Health. Not only is she achieving this remarkable academic milestone, but she has also been honored with the Research Excellence Award by the school. To learn more about Kaiser Permanente’s innovative approach to creating the next generation of experienced and diverse mental health professionals, I invite you to watch Episode One of our Mental Health Series “Closing the Gap: Expanding Access to Mental Health Services,” featuring insightful discussions with Gloria Martinez, LMFT, and Dan Gizzo, PhD, clinical psychologist. [Link to the Mental Health Series: https://k-p.li/4eUIqYZ] Join us in celebrating the achievements of Christine and our MHSA program as we continue to work towards a more inclusive and accessible mental health care system.
