🌞 Reflecting on My "Summer of Bill" 🚀    Hello, LinkedIn network!    After a remarkable 17-year journey at Comcast, I departed in May, embarking on what I affectionately dubbed the "Summer of Bill." 😁   This period of self-discovery and rejuvenation has been transformative in several ways, and I'm excited to share the key takeaways:    1. Family Time: Taking time to reconnect with my family was an incredibly rewarding experience, and I feel immensely grateful and lucky to have had this opportunity to spend such quality time with my family.      I urge everyone to consider finding time or perhaps taking a sabbatical before the kids grow up too fast.    2. Investing in Myself: Stepping away from the relentless grind of daily work after 17 years allowed me to invest time in myself, both professionally and personally. I had the privilege of delving deeper into areas I'm passionate about, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML).     This journey of self-improvement has reignited my enthusiasm for learning and growth.    3. Discovering What Energizes Me: The downtime has provided me with a unique opportunity to explore what truly energizes me from a work standpoint. I've gained a deeper understanding of my strengths and preferences, enabling me to better align my future endeavors with my passions and values.     I love product strategy, product ideation, collaborating with people, building and leading teams.    4. The Power of Relationships: Throughout my journey, I've been deeply grateful for the incredible network of friends and confidants who have provided guidance and support. Reflecting on an Incredible Journey One year ago today, I took a forced leap of faith and walked out of Intel Corporation for the last time as an employee. It marked the end of an era—an era filled with growth, learning, and countless memories. Intel was more than just a workplace; it was my safety net, my constant companion through the twists and turns of my career. Stepping into the unknown was daunting, to say the least. Change has a way of stirring up a mix of emotions—fear, excitement, uncertainty. But I've come to realize that it's within those moments of uncertainty that we truly discover our strengths and resilience. My journey to my next adventure was far from smooth sailing. There were ups, downs, and plenty of tears shed along the way. But amidst the challenges, there were also moments of celebration—moments that reaffirmed my belief in the power of perseverance and determination. Today, I find myself at Blancco Technology Group , embracing a new chapter in my career journey. It's an exhilarating role that allows me to continue growing, sharing my knowledge, and collaborating with incredible individuals to make a meaningful impact in the world of data protection through data sanitization. Layoffs and transitions can be tough, no doubt. But sometimes, amidst the chaos, there's a silver lining waiting to be discovered. A week ago today, my nearly 9-year journey at the Intel site in Folsom came to an end. While it was sad to close that chapter, I'm extremely thankful for the opportunity. I got to work with some truly amazing people and learned so much. Here are a few of the most impactful things I learned during my journey: 💡 Embrace the unknown; don't fear it. Fear of the unknown is biologically built into us, but if we learn to embrace it, we're able to experience an incredible amount of learning and growth. 💡 The greater pressure, the greater the opportunity: The late Kobe Bryant said, "Everything negative—pressure, challenges—is all an opportunity for me to rise." I'd take it a step further and say that pressure can be positive because it pushes us beyond what we may think we're capable of. If you can stay level-headed and find the opportunity in the pressure, great things can happen. 💡 Lead with Kindness and humility: I was fortunate to be around many amazing managers every day. The thing I noticed about them was that they were some of the nicest people I'd ever met. I wanted to do my best for them because I didn't want to let them down, not because they scared me into working hard. There are times to be firm, but their style of leadership created a much happier and more productive team. ⏩ As I move towards the next phase of my journey, I'll look forward to an environment that will push me out of my comfort zone and allow me to continue learning, growing, and using that growth to make a progressively larger impact on the company and team that I'm a part of. ✨ Reflecting on a Year ✨ A year ago today, our lives changed with sudden layoffs. Despite the challenges, I’m filled with gratitude for my time with the Marketstar/Pinterest team. Shadowing top-performing reps and engaging in mock calls with managers provided invaluable learning opportunities and honest feedback for growth. Inspirational Leadership: -Supportive Managers: Consistent 1:1 mentorship and genuine care for our development. They pushed me to be the best version of myself. -Compassionate VP: Focused on important causes like school supplies for children, suicide awareness, and employee support in times of need. Without such a leader, the organization could have easily crumbled. Unmatched Team Culture: Community Events: We celebrated all holidays, held raffles to test our knowledge and celebrate our wins, and embraced a mindset of always striving for +2. Record-Breaking Numbers: We hit milestones not by luck, but through hard work and a supportive culture. My manager once said, “We worked our butts off and earned those numbers.” This experience taught me the immense value of a strong workplace culture. Despite the rocky path since the layoff, I’ve found a place that upholds the same high standard at BambooHR.
