Genetics do a play a role in cardiovascular disease risk, however, research shows that it can be mitigated with a truly heart healthy lifestyle.⁠ ⁠ This study analyzed genetic risk for high blood pressure using data from 277,005 individuals in the UK Biobank study who did not have prior cardiovascular disease. ⁠ ⁠ ⭐️It found that regardless of genetic predisposition, individuals with healthier lifestyles—such as those with lower BMI, healthier diets, regular physical activity, moderate alcohol consumption, non-smoking habits, and appropriate sodium intake—consistently had lower systolic and diastolic BP levels. ⁠ ⁠ ⭐️ Specifically, compared to those with less healthy lifestyles, individuals in the low, middle, and high genetic risk groups had 30%, 33%, and 31% lower risks of developing CVD, respectively. ⁠ ⁠ ⭐️ This suggests that adopting a healthier lifestyle can reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease regardless of genetic predisposition.⁠ ⁠ ❤️ Blood pressure responds very well with diet, so much so that is the most common medication to be removed (by the physician) from my clients list because we don’t want blood pressure to be too low!⁠ ⁠ ❤️ The focus should be on ADDING foods that help to vaso-dilate (open the arteries) instead of keeping them in a constricted state.
