I often hear people say to me “my doctor told me I will die if I don’t take a statin, and now I am confused because I read online that it may increase my calcium score.” ⚠️ While statins can be a part of the picture and be life saving for some, this type of language is not conducive to helping anyone. ⭐️ It is important that you surround yourself with qualified healthcare professionals who will explain the situation to you fully so you can understand it and then make a more grounded decision for your health. 👉🏼 Statins may help stabilize soft plaque meaning it may cause the soft plaque in the arteries to harden. Since the calcium score only detects hardened plaque, the calcium score will rise in this event. There are many tactics that can help stabilize soft plaque and prevent complications from atherosclerosis and heart disease - and it should always include science based nutrition. ⭐️ If you are looking for a supportive environment that encourages questions, does not push supplements or a one sized fits all solution, and is there to educate, empower, and help you implement science based nutrition for optimal heart health, consider joining my 6 week heart optimization group program. ❤️ I am here fore you and I would love to help guide you on your heart health journey. 💫 My next program begins on Friday, July 12th and spots are VERY limited! Secure your spot today here: https://lnkd.in/e5eigZgA *payment plan options are available. CLIENT SUCCESS STORY: A 62 year old female came to see me because she had paroxysmal Atrial fibrillation (Afib), uncontrolled blood pressure, and a recent decline in her kidney function. She was following a low salt diet and thought she was eating healthy. After a comprehensive evaluation, it was apparent that a) she was deficient in many vitamins, minerals and nutrients that are needed to improve her blood pressure values and irregular heart beat b) some of the foods she googled to eat for kidney health was outdated, not applicable to her, and was doing more harm than good, and c) she had a lot more potential to optimize her nutrition and lifestyle further for optimal health and to stave off chronic disease. We worked together in my VIP results driven program to optimize her heart health through personalized, science based nutrition targeting her goals to control her blood pressure and Afib, and to increase her kidney function. After 1 week, her blood pressure started to significantly improve. Over this 3 month period of time, she decreased her blood pressure levels by over 25mmHg, put her Afib in remission, and improved her kidney function significantly (egfr 42ml/min, stage 3b -> 71ml/min, mild stage 2 CKD). She also had a lot more energy, strength and confidence in her food choices. ⭐️ What many people do not realize is that your cardiovascular health is linked to all organs of your body and if we don’t focus on improving your blood pressure, flow and blood vessel function, it can cause other complications like kidney decline. ❤️ If you are interested in learning more about my services and discussing how I can help you achieve optimal heart health through personalized, science based nutrition, schedule a 15 minute complimentary discovery call here: https://lnkd.in/g29xbEf2 #afibdiett #heartdisease #hearthealthydiet #cardiacdiet #atrialfibrillation #afibsucks #arrhythmia #cardioversion #afib #tachycardia #cardiacablationrecovery #afibawareness #cardiacablation #cardiaccathlab #atrialfibrillationawareness #atrialfibrillationablation #cardiovasculardisease #hearthealth #ablation #hearthealthy #hearthealthyfoods #strokeprevention #cardiacsurgery #chronickidneydisease #bloodpressure #atherosclerosis #highcholesterol #heartattackprevention #heartattacksurvivor #heartdiseaseawareness

Just as I advocate for knowing your numbers and being proactive about your health, please also be proactive about who you get advice from, especially when it comes to your medical conditions. I cannot tell you how many times I have had to reteach a fundamental scientific concept to my clients because of something they read from an influencer, or a person with no credentials. Or the fact that certain products that were recommended to them were contributing to an increase in their LDL cholesterol, or causing high blood pressure, or leading to kidney damage. It is so important that you: a) know and trust who is giving you advice about nutrition and lifestyle – science based nutrition is imperative for optimal results, and a credentialed health professional who specializes in the area of expertise you are seeking help with will lead to optimal results. b) understand the WHY behind the recommendations so you can implement it more easily, and be confident in your food and nutrition choices for the long term. ❤️ I am a Preventive Cardiology Dietitian, a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, a Certified Diabetes Educator, and I have a MS in Clinical Nutrition and completed my dietetic nutrition residency from NYU. I base my recommendations from the science and personalize it to you. I make sure my clients understand the WHY behind my recommendations, and work with them to understand the science behind their medical conditions so they can reduce their risk of heart disease and it's complications, and be true advocates for their own health. ⭐️ Join my next 6 week heart optimization group program on July 12th where I dive into the science based nutrition to optimize your heart health. We need to be focusing on the nutrients that you need to ADD to your diet for optimal heart health. One of the many nutrients is Zinc. Several studies show that low zinc levels are correlated with lower cardiac function. Why may this be? 1️⃣ Zinc has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, which help protect the heart and blood vessels from damage caused by oxidative stress and inflammation. 2️⃣ Zinc reduces the activity of certain molecules involved in cell death processes, such as caspase-3 and TNF-α, preventing the death of vascular and myocardial cells. 3️⃣ Zinc also plays a role in regulating the contraction and relaxation of the heart muscle by influencing membrane channels that control the movement of calcium ions, which are essential for proper heart function. ⭐️ The Recommended Dietary Allowance for adults is 8mg/day for women and 11mg for men. Some studies suggest that adults above 80 years old may need higher amounts for heart health. ⚠️ Caution with taking a Zinc supplement for more than 14 days as it can compete with Copper metabolism, leading to a decline in immune function. 💫 For more heart disease prevention tips, be sure to subscribe to my email list here: https://lnkd.in/eAEbtf_E ❤️ To learn more about science based nutrition, consider joining my next 6 week heart optimization group program that begins on March 22nd. Oftentimes when individuals get a copy of their echo results, they may see it say "diastolic dysfunction, grade I" phrase in their chart and are unsure what it means. Diastolic dysfunction means the heart has trouble relaxing and filling up with blood properly during the resting phase of the heartbeat. This can make it harder for the heart to fill its lower chambers with blood, leading to less blood being pumped out with each beat. 👉🏼 Certain conditions can increase the risk of developing diastolic dysfunction. These conditions include high blood pressure, coronary artery disease, heart attack, cardiomyopathy, and certain metabolic disorders. 👉🏼 Aging can contribute to this as well, however, many people have premature arterial aging where the stiffness and thickening of their arteries happen before it should, leading to earlier, more progressive heart disease and its complications. 👉🏼 The progression of diastolic dysfunction can lead to diastolic heart failure, arrhythmias such as atrial fibrillation, heightened cardiovascular event risk, pulmonary hypertension, and impaired exercise tolerance, which stresses the importance of timely intervention. ⭐️ In many instances, particularly when diastolic dysfunction is associated with conditions like high blood pressure, science based nutrition and lifestyle changes can be effective in improving diastolic function and preventing further deterioration. These lifestyle modifications typically involve adopting a nutrient sufficient and focused heart-healthy diet, regular physical activity, maintaining a healthy weight, managing stress, and avoiding tobacco and excessive alcohol consumption. ⭐️ In my 6 week heart optimization group program, we discuss in great detail all about blood vessel optimization through science based nutrition. I equip you with the knowledge of understanding what is going on and how to improve blood flow and vascular tone to optimize blood pressure, arterial stiffness, and cardiovascular health. ❤️ My next cohort begins on May 10th and I would love to have you! While your doctor may not recommend blood pressure medication until your blood pressure is 140/80mmHg or higher, we see for optimal risk reduction and avoidance of complications of high blood pressure (like heart enlargement, heart failure, Afib, plaque formation in the arteries, and strokes) we need to target it to be less than 120/80mmHg, and we can improve these numbers with science based nutrition. ❤️ Hi, my name is Michelle Routhenstein and I am a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist who specializes in heart disease management and prevention. I have helped thousands of individuals lower their blood pressure through implementing science based nutrition that improves blood vessel health. It is important that we focus on ADDING in foods into the diet to achieve optimal levels. ⭐️ One example of this is addressing the sodium to potassium ratio, which you can see in the example swap above. Science backed research shows that the sodium to potassium ratio may have a stronger association with high blood pressure than either food intake from sodium or potassium alone. If you do not have enough potassium (through food) then your blood vessels can be more constricted and stiff, leading to high blood pressure and your heart to overwork. In this study, it looked at 12, 267 US adults over a 15 year time period to assess sodium, potassium, and sodium to potassium ratios and its effect on dying. Higher sodium to potassium ratios increased death from cardiovascular disease by 46%. ⚠️ Caution: Potassium supplements are capped at 99 mg due to higher dose in supplemental forms can lead to heart beat irregularities, and even cardiac arrest. Research shows for optimal heart health we are aiming for 3600-4700mg per day which makes it impossible to rely on supplements. 👉🏼 Share this with someone who would benefit. ✨ If you are looking for 1 on 1 support to optimize your heart health through science based nutrition, schedule a 15 minute complimentary discovery call here: https://lnkd.in/g29xbEf2 Study reference: https://lnkd.in/djj9fCZ #bloodpressure #bloodpressurecontrol #bloodpressuremonitor #bloodpressureproblems #bloodpressurecheck #bloodpressurehealth #bloodpressureculf #bloodpressuretest #lowerbloodpressure #lowerbloodpressurefoods #lowerbloodpressurenaturally #hypertensiontreamtent #hypertensiondiet #hypertensionmanagement #hypertensiontips #hypertensionsupport #hypertensionawareness #hypertension #hypertensionprevention #strokeprevention #transieentischemicattack #ministroke #heartattacksurvivor #heartattackprevention #hearthealthyfood #hearthealthyfoods #heartdisease #heartdiseaseawareness #preventandreverseheartdisease #heartdiseaseprevention

We are less than a week away from the first one of the year in Opelika, Alabama at the Opelika Public Library. Following are some answers to questions that I have received. 1. Are any seats left in Opelika? Yes! There are seats left and you can sign up at www.NFBH.health up to the morning of the event. There are also still seats available at the upcoming classes as well. 2. Is this class going to be mainly about weight loss? The short answer is "No", the long answer is...This course is NOT a weight loss seminar. It also focuses on disease prevention and/or maintenance, social media and how it has changed how we learn about nutrition, common nutrition myths...and more! All evidence based, of course. 3. Is lunch provided? Lunch is not provided, but we will take an hour lunch break. You can enjoy a local restaurant or feel free to bring a lunch and stay at the library. For a detailed schedule, please visit www.NFBH.health If you have a question that was not answered here, please email me at [email protected]! See you soon!
