We are pleased to announce the appointment of Himanshu J. Patel, M.D., as the newest co-director of the U-M Health Frankel Cardiovascular Center. Dr. Patel joined the Department of Cardiac Surgery in 2002; he now serves as the section head of adult cardiac surgery and executive director of the Cardiovascular Network of West Michigan. We are thrilled to have Dr. Patel join the leadership team — strengthening existing relationships and building new partnerships that elevate our center’s mission. #GoBlue

Diabetes and mental health are tightly linked. When a person has a chronic diabetes complication, like stroke or nerve damage, they are more likely to have a mental health disorder, and vice versa, according to a study led by U-M Health and University of Michigan School of Public Health:

Transportation on our Ann Arbor medical campus has been particularly challenging this week due to a combination of road construction, building projects and U-M student move in. We know this has been inconvenient for patients with appointments on the medical campus, and strongly recommend patients with appointments through the rest of this week allow an extra hour for traffic congestion and parking. But there are gaps in understanding how diet influences the nutrients that get passed on to babies.
