Health care costs are burdensome for Americans, so much so that it ranks as the most important health care priority for legislators. Hospitals are working hard to contain patient costs, but how do voters view the efforts of others in the health care industry? Phillip J. Just my two cents I have been frank with my thoughts that no successful politician will run on "lets fight for higher drug prices" This video demonstrates voters' number one concern is about health care costs (their own costs.) So ditto for the trash can -along with "I am for higher drug prices"- are tired slogans like "more skin in the game". Unless providers' and manufacturers' long-run goal is Medicare for All or consolidated financing ala California, I suggest they might want to parse more carefully their on-slaught on cost containment efforts. It is not to say that injustice, maltreatment, or practices that are not evidence-based should not be addressed, but we need competitive transparent solutions and evidence. I have to commend FAH for advocating for CMS to adopt its appeals measure. Blue sky, I would like to see one for rural providers and MA say maybe on medical necessity denials or for CMS to require policies that are directed at education to reduce areas with high rates of process denials. Nor, should we throw out the baby with the bath water, such as trading out the cross-substitution that is balancing say generics with specialty drugs. To be clear, I have a strong appreciation for efforts like Cubans' Cost Plus because it exemplifies how the market competitively targets opportunities. I suspect plans will eventually respond with good proposals. True I have an (embarrassing) soft spot for reimportation, less the reality and more the acknowledgment that these inter-country price differentials are bad for business and politics. Crafty politicians recognize those differences in prices under the "Could you explain it to your mother or grandmother test" without a chart or a PowerPoint. We therefore should not mock those proposals unless we have better ones. #healthcarecosts Alex Azar
