My good friend Michael Kaufmann has a new book out, "GitHub Actions Cookbook" - https://lnkd.in/gaQYk95i I had the opportunity to tech-edit this book, so I got to play with all the solutions ahead of anyone else. And let me tell you, Michael has some nice recipes in this book. Whether you are new to Actions, or have been using it for a while, you will find something you didn't know about in this book. Go check it out!

I had a meeting last week on Git branching. I said to myself: I'm already familiar with Git/ GitHub, Let's see what they have to say about best pracitces, mitigating risks and bla bla. And as you might predict the rest of the meeting 😁.... I got so fumed that I can only grasp fragments of their conversation. To avoid a similar experience, I recommend reading this book: https://lnkd.in/d5C-CkCq

Finally finished reading Pro Git by Scott Chacon. It was a longer and more challenging read than I expected, but very rewarding. Despite a lot of it going over my head, I took away several key points: - Version control is crucial for any kind of software development, especially when it's as efficient as Git. The main functionality isn't that complicated, and with practice, anyone can get comfortable with it. - It's hard to overstate the importance of Git and GitHub (and similar platforms) for DevOps and CI/CD pipelines. If you want things customised, Git has you covered. - Linus Torvalds is a gangster. #Git #GitHub #Software #DevOps https://lnkd.in/daFyeCB8

Here's why many developers don't know enough Git: they just use a series of commands they've seen on the internet, without actually knowing what they're doing. I've been there, done that. The solution is almost trivial: take some time to actually understand Git. Here, if you read up to chapter 3 (it's not that much), I am sure it will be extremely clarifying: https://lnkd.in/dqYwAFCq
