This week we welcomed three gay men into our housing in the West Midlands! They are from Grenada, Jordan and Iraq. In Iraq and Grenada, gay men face punitive prison sentences for same-sex sexual activity. Jordan is the only Arab countriy where being #LGBTQI isn't illegal, however, LGBTQI people face discrimination, abuse and often have to live in the closet, living double lives. Now they live in our safe housing for LGBTQI people seeking asylum, they can live openly and safely alongside other people in their community. • Welcome to your new home!
Three gay men have moved into our housing in the West Midlands - from Iraq, Jordan and Grenada
  • Jordan remains one of the few Arab countries where homosexual conduct is not criminalised. However, LGBTQI people face legal challenges and discrimination not experienced by non-LGBTQI persons.
In Grenada, same-sex sexual activity is prohibited, and is punished with a maximum penalty of ten years' imprisonment. Only men are criminalised under this law.
In Iraq, same-sex sexual activity is explicitly prohibited, since the Iraqi Parliament passed an amendment to a 1988 anti-prostitution law in April 2024. he law criminalises same-sex sexual conduct with a maximum prison sentence of fifteen years.
  • Now they have moved into our safe housing for LGBTQI asylum seekers, they are safe to be themselves.
They can live openly and attend Micro Rainbow activities alongside their LGBTQI housemates.
