Happy 4th of July! 🎆 In honor of "The Star-Spangled Banner,", we are thrilled to announce the funding of a historic preservation grant: 🎆Pride of Baltimore, Inc. - This reproduction of a 19th-century privateer warship, known as a Baltimore clipper, played a significant role in the War of 1812, the conflict that inspired the writing of "The Star-Spangled Banner." Maryland Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts, a recent grantee, offers pro bono legal referrals and services to artists throughout Maryland. A month ago, Baltimore area nonprofits received grants from MacKenzie Scott, and we're thrilled to have supported most of these organizations in recent years. Among them are Wide Angle Youth Media, Marian House, St. Francis Neighborhood Center, GEDCO (Govans Ecumenical Development Corporation), Baltimore Tree Trust, and Restorative Response Baltimore. There has been recent discussion surrounding whether recipients of the Yield Giving Open Call awards from MacKenzie Scott truly require additional funds. While a $1-2 million gift may seem substantial, it's essential to recognize that this allocation will bolster the reserves crucial for many of these organizations. Moreover, there are still numerous unmet needs that these funds will address. Happy to highlight our recent Green Grantees supporting the local community and environment. Preservation Maryland, will rehabilitate the 172-year-old historic Ellicott City Jail, adapting it into collaborative space for conservation nonprofits & a Center for Climate, Heritage, and Preservation Studies. Civic Works, Inc. one of our first-time grantees, was awarded funds to further contribute to community development with its solar powered resiliency hub. The Blueway Inner Harbor Kayak Launch by Waterfront Partnership of Baltimore adds a recreational and environmental dimension to the area.
