The Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) has said that a new report from the Health Select Committee Expert Panel on Pharmacy is a "wake up call" for the government. The report, which was published in July, found that there are major challenges facing pharmacy in England, including inadequate funding, poor digital maturity, and a lack of integration with other healthcare services. The RPS said that the report "highlights the need for urgent action from the government to support pharmacy and ensure that it can continue to deliver essential services to patients." The Society called for increased funding for pharmacy, as well as improvements in digital maturity and integration with other healthcare services. The RPS also said that the report "shows that pharmacy has the potential to play a much greater role in the NHS, but that this potential is not being realised." The Society called for the government to give pharmacy a "clearer role" in the NHS and to provide it with the resources it needs to deliver this role. The HSCC report is a timely reminder of the importance of pharmacy to the NHS. Pharmacists play a vital role in providing care to patients, and they are well-placed to take on a greater role in the future of the NHS.
