It’s quite common for businesses and organizations to hold team-building activities for their staff. Companies are always looking for activities that will strengthen the team, boost morale, and foster a positive company culture. Guess what! For example, a creative ingredient substitution or addition can really elevate a dish. 4️⃣ It Builds Trust Everyone has a strength to bring to the table. As a team member, you’ve got to trust your teammates to execute their tasks. By doing this, you’ll encourage their trust in you. 5️⃣ It Creates a Sense of Accomplishment and Builds Bonds Sitting down to a tasty meal made by you and your colleagues is an opportunity to reflect on and celebrate everyone’s efforts. I am going to break the number 1 Rule in Soup Club and talk about Soup Club….. What is this Soup Club?....I hear you ask…. Well, here at Rutherford Briant, a select few of us have been chosen (some of us opted in) to be part of a group where we take turns to create a Soup on a weekly basis for the group to enjoy. So far, we have enjoyed a Spiced Parsnip soup, created by Amanda Sainter and a Carrot and Coriander by Matthew Reed. Next week is my turn and I am planning on making a Tomato and Red Pepper Soup. So why am I talking about Soup Club?.... Basically, I wanted to look at the Soup Club Advantage when it comes to cultivating a positive work culture. In today's professional world, the significance of work culture cannot be overstated. A positive work culture not only contributes to employee satisfaction but also plays a pivotal role in fostering collaboration, creativity, and overall productivity. I personally feel that the establishment of the Soup Club (some people in the office may refer to it as a Soup Cult) is a unique and effective way to enhance workplace camaraderie and build a positive atmosphere. Even those of us not wishing to take part are entertained and invested in the weekly deliberations around consistency and vegetable to liquid ratios. Not only does Soup Club foster connection, promote team building and well-being….. it also means on a Monday I no longer have to think about what I am having for lunch. One less thing to think about for me! Win – win. But it also celebrates diversity as participants can share recipes from various cultural backgrounds, creating an inclusive environment that values and appreciates differences. So I suppose what I am suggesting is…… create yourself a Soup Club (other forms of culinary delights can also be used)! #soupclub #culture #healthandwellness #teambonding #teamculture

Am I alone on this? When I worked at companies, I hated mandatory team-building activities. Things like: -Ice breakers -Personality test. -Cooking classes. -Scavenger hunts. -Building spaghetti towers. I didn't like being forced to bond with my workplace family. I wanted to do my job and go home to my actual family. If you want to lift spirits, swap team-building for salary-building. Cooking class for cash. What’s your opinion of forced team-building activities?

Teamwork makes the dream work. Everyone has to buy into the vision and be consistant. As my college soccer coach used to say, "Take care of the small things and the big things will take care of themselves." When we started TRE Olive the goal was to increase quality and reduce the number of layers that handle our olive oil before reaching the consumer. Why? Because there are a lot of things that can go wrong along the way. Product sitting in a sunny/hot parking lot waiting to get loaded onto a truck or warehouse. Bottles sitting on a well-lit store shelf for weeks or longer. You can't expect someone else's employees to know (or care) about our olive oil and the best practices to ensure the product stays at peak quality. It isn't always easy and we still have lots of work to do. Growth can be tricky.. sometimes there's low hanging fruit that doesn't fit with what you're trying to do... but it can be tempting! Food Delights: A Recipe for Team Building and Good Practices! 🍽️ A few days ago, I decided to put on my chef's apron and cook up for our incredible team. What resulted was not only a delicious meal but also a valuable lesson in teamwork and good practices. 🍳 Cooking Up Collaboration: The kitchen became our creative playground, much like our workplace where we collaborate and innovate together. Each team member had a role to play, just as they do in our projects. From slicing ingredients to timing our dishes, we executed tasks with precision, underlining the importance of working in harmony. 🤝 Taste the Collaboration: Cooking together highlighted the essence of effective teamwork - communication, coordination, and trust. Just like in our professional lives, we discussed ideas, shared insights, and embraced diverse perspectives. It was a reminder of the strength that comes from pooling our talents and resources. 📝 Following the Recipe: To create a mouthwatering meal, we meticulously followed recipes, adhering to best practices. This experience reinforced the significance of having well-defined processes and guidelines in our projects. The term “time management” is a misnomer. No one can ‘manage’ time: time marches on. My simple trick for decades now … … is to simply recognize this by focusing on “activity management” within blocks of time so that I can hit my mark or deadline. Simply, ‘time management’ is a falsehood, yet I see many noted ‘experts’ on LinkedIn — dozens of times a day — extolling the virtues good time management and you should follow them, like their comments, and ultimately pay them for their expertise through webinars, seminars, conferences and more. And it’s not a scam. They’re helping you. Because you’re weak and undisciplined. What you can do, is practice and discipline yourself to practice “activity management” — because it is then — and only then, you’ll hit your mark and you’ll stick the landing with your time schedules and deadlines. I teach this to clients, every day. Of course, I bill them. Heck, I even bill clients while I’m thinking about how to solve their particular issue while I’m taking my morning shower. Seriously. Today, in fact, one client called me to ask if I could meet her for early dinner and beers to discuss her biz issue. Of course I said yes. She’s buying beers, bar food and dinner. And I’m billing her.
