🌿 Gasunie’s innovative “Heat Highway” in the Netherlands, WarmtelinQ, is gearing up for operation. This regional main transmission pipeline will channel residual heat from the Rotterdam Harbour to the rest of South Holland, marking one of the most ambitious and expansive sustainable energy infrastructure initiatives in the Netherlands. 💡 The heat system was designed with the assistance of Gradyent’s Digital Twin. Various scenarios were tested and full years of dynamic operation were simulated. This allowed stakeholders to visualize the system in operation before it was even built, thereby validating the business case. 🏆 Gradyent has now also been awarded the long-term contract to optimize operations with the Digital Twin. It will play a key role in formulating the day-ahead transport plan and live monitoring and control of the network, which will allow WarmtelinQ to reliably execute the heat transport and promptly correct any deviations arising throughout the day. 🔄 This project beautifully illustrates how Digital Twins can be a strategic part of the total life cycle of heating systems - Design, Operate, and Transform. 🔍 Want to learn more? Congrats, Pattern Energy Group, on securing $11 billion in financing & beginning construction on the largest clean energy project in US history! Pattern closed on financing that includes about $8.8 billion in construction & term facilities & $2.25 billion in tax equity for the 3.5 GW SunZia wind farm in New Mexico & 550-mile transmission line carrying electricity to Arizona. Pattern was bought by the CPP Investments | Investissements RPC in 2020. It took over 17 years for SunZia to gain approvals & begin building, highlighting the difficulty of building transmission lines in the US. 🎉 Guidehouse are partnering with Distribution Network Operators on three Strategic Innovation Fund (SIF) Round 3 Discovery projects 🎉   SIF has unlocked £5.8m of funding for 44 new energy projects to address the most pressing challenges that we face as we work to decarbonise our energy system.   In collaboration with our project partners, we are uncovering the potential of three innovative ideas with positively impacts for UK energy networks and consumers:   🌬 CoolDown will be the first project to consider cooling's potential as a flexible load for distribution networks. With Electricity North West, the project will explore how much cooling will be needed in homes and businesses as the UK warms. It will develop commercial models to maximise the energy system flexibility which building temperature management can provide, considering linkages between heating and cooling.   🌊 WASH will evaluate the impact incorporating heat from wastewater can have on heat pump-driven district heating (DH) networks, in terms of heat pump sizing and operational flexibility. It will also explore novel commercial arrangements to incentivise DH network operators, water & sewerage companies and DNOs to work collaboratively to decarbonise DH networks. In partnership with UK Power Networks.   🏝 LookNortH2 will look into offshore energy hubs (OEHs) and their capability to stimulate integration of offshore electricity/ hydrogen production between the UK and European countries. With National Gas, this project is exploring potential benefits and associated costs of developing OEHs in the UK.
