That's a wrap! More than 120 folks across 2 days for another impactful series of presentations, discussions and networking on how we Scale Climate Action. 🚀 The theme this time around was a personal highlight - how we fund climate and nature businesses and organisations. 💵 Some key takeaways from across the different speakers: - Tommy Hurley (Shamrock Ventures) laying out the challenges of venture building in this space, particularly in the current macro-environment. His advice resonated firmly - define your focus, value proposition and team then get going, don't wait endlessly refining before starting your fundraising efforts.  - Matt Leggett (Terratai) shone the spotlight squarely on funding new business that address the foundational challenges of nature and biodiversity. We were all left contemplating the structural challenges that traditional venture capital has in this space, how we could look at other layers of the capital stack, and how innovative blending across these different layers holds great potential.    - Nicolo Castiglione (Bali Investment Club) walked us through the impact investments that BIC has made to date and shared the recently announced climate-focussed fund, Archipelago that has the 3 primary goals of minimising CO2 emissions, maximising waste recovering and financial benefits for low income communities on the frontline. - Mathias Boissonot (Handprint) - delivered a tour de force review of the regulatory and voluntary landscape for funding climate and nature initiatives, inspiring a third pillar for channelling corporate investment into broad ecosystem goals beyond the traditional carbon lens.  - Bruce Haldane (ex Gojek) brought the conversation firmly back to the individual, stressing how business need to be serving the needs of those on the frontline of climate change, He reminded everyone in attendance that the way we invest and divest our own money can be a meaningful first step. With discussions spanning the gamut of climate safety, biodiversity restoration, regeneration and stakeholder equity, i'm beginning to think that "Scale Climate Action" might need a new name 😉. I just shared my new vision with the Hubbub team: to be the world's 𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗦𝗧 creative organisation. 🙅 In fact, to become the world's first 𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗶-𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. • To crush ideas as soon as we see them • To wring the neck of novelty • To stamp out innovation Our mantra will be: 𝘥𝘰 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘴 𝘪𝘵 𝘩𝘢𝘴 𝘣𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘥𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘣𝘦𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘦. ↳ And if you can't do that, do it like everyone else does. To make this work, we'll have to ensure everyone is terrified of making mistakes. ↳ Every decision will have to be double-checked by senior management. ... I didn't get much further. The team didn't seem very keen on this new direction. 🤷♂️ So, for the moment, back to how we were: ↳ Maximising our creativity to make the most impact possible. ↳ Building a culture of trust, freedom and willingness to take risks. ↳ Removing the blockers to a creative culture: stress, fear, lack of clarity & more. We've got two days in the beautiful Norfolk countryside to explore what creativity means for us. Two days of scavenger hunts, workshops, wild swimming, reflection, and much more. This initiative, brilliantly birthed by my colleague Allison Voss, who is the Ecosystem Lead for Nature and Biodiversity, is shaping up to be a vital platform for impact investing in natural capital. Allison's leadership and vision have been pivotal. Every conversation with her brings fresh, innovative ideas on how we can communicate the critical role of investing in our natural environment and mobilizing opportunities for investment to our community of innovators.
